We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Harrison Ford Says Blade Runner 2 Script Is Best Thing He's Ever Read

Considering some of the scripts Ford has attached his name to, I don't know that I trust his judgment. Still, I guess it's cool that he's positive about it.

Is it really bad that the biggest thing that worries me about this is Ridley Scott?

Also, no Roy Batty and C-Beams glittering at the Tannhauser (sp?) gate etc. etc. I hear that speech was the actors own work.

"It's still unclear if Ridley Scott will direct the new Blade Runner movie, but it's looking increasingly likely that he won't."

Then again, I think I remember reading a similar sentence in the early days of Prometheus.

No, the similar sentence didn't mention Blade Runner.

Good luck getting people to agree on which version you should see.

Blade Runner 2049

Post by Space Tycoon »

Well, it's been a long wait, but worth it. I saw Blade Runner 2049 last night, and it lives up to the hype. I'm still processing everything, but I can assure you I'll be seeing it again, hopefully in IMAX. I can't say that it is better than the first. I rarely think of sequels as being "better," even when there is much to be praised, simply because they invariably build on the good work of the original. BR2049 has beautiful visuals, a more coherent story, with more emphasis on character and dialogue than the first movie.

I was worried from the trailers that the emphasis would be on action set-pieces and the ridiculously drawn-out fight sequences that are the hallmark of many of today's genre films. Spinners involved in "trench-run" style dogfights and so forth. But my fears were unfounded, this is a suspenseful drama punctuated by moments of extreme violence, in much the same tone as BR. The soundtrack bears only a passing resemblance to the BR soundtrack. What I heard reminded me a lot of the themes from Arrival, Villeneuve's previous film, despite different composers. And there is the unmistakable Zimmer drumbeat throughout, albeit slowed down.

The only criticism(not even a criticism, really) is that this is a lengthy viewing. BR2049 builds on everything from the first movie and adds new dimensions and asks new questions. I don't want to spoil anything, but a few of the assumptions you may have carried over from BR, especially the director's cut(s), you may have to reconsider.

When you say that, do you mean the unauthorized '90 cut that got released to theaters as the Director's Cut, the authorized, official '92 Director's Cut Scott helped make in response to the unauthorized '90 release (which authorized, official cut Scott decided was unsatisfactory some years later), or the '07 Final Cut that Scott has--as of this writing, at least--yet to disown?

When I wrote that, I meant it facetiously precisely for the reasons you outlined. But you already knew that. :)

Saw it this afternoon. A little long, especially at the end, but beautifully shot and designed. As Spacey said, it really builds on the original without being slavish, and it's nice to have a SF flick that isn't all slam-bang-crash, but takes time to consider its ideas. I liked it.

On the news they were talking "flop" B.O.

I am not sure what they expected? Surely nobody was thinking Blockbuster $$$??

I naively thought it would do well. My theatre was packed, and this was a thursday night. I hold out hope that positive word of mouth will help a bit in the coming days.

I suggest watching "Blade Runner" because it is good, but I'm not so sure it's essential to understanding the second one.

I went and saw the second one yesterday. Imma review it her later when I have more time to type.

I think you can understand it without seeing the first, but the end will be much richer if you have.
