The Batshit Crazy Republicans Roundup

Why bother with any other forum?
Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

It's close. The difference is that Jubbers is the one taking the abuse.

You made a mistake. You said 'abuse' when you meant 'unconditional love and hugs'.

I have a soft spot in my heart for pigs. Intelligent, sweet, sensitive creatures. Les Nessman was right.

Les Nessman may have been right about pigs, but Arthur Carlson was dead wrong about turkeys.

Absolutely not. Bush is way too moderate on immigration to pass the current GOP purity test. Not saying he won't get the nomination, but it's far from a done deal.

I'd look at Scott Walker as the front runner for now. He's only downgraded Wisconsin from being in "good" to "average" shape over four years, can win tough elections, has been rigidly conservative, corrupt as fuck, and has yet to say anything stupid regarding vaccines or rape. Pretty much all it takes at this point.

Wait until he refuses to get his dog immunised against rape 'cos the sexy little bitch was drunk on doggie treats, then refuses to get another girl dog because the bible told him so.

That'll make him a shoe-in, no?

Do any of his opinions (or his supposed opinions) really matter? During the primaries, all of the candidates will just say whatever they think will get them the most votes. In the end, all the candidates will say roughly the same, and the real deciding factors will be circumstantial issues, such as strange off-putting moments (like the Dean Scream), weird gaffes (such as making racist comments while the mic is still on) or unexpected moments of honesty where the candidates actually make the mistake of voicing their real opinions. I actually feel that Jeb Bush is the most likely candidate to avoid stuff like that.

Then, when the primaries are over, the candidate will anyway move back into a more moderate position and as far to the political middle as possible so that we can get the usual 51%/49% result.

I'm inclined to agree. They went through such a weird cycle last time though where even guys like Rick Santorum, who have a long and storied history of making weird, off-putting gaffes were able to be called the front-runner for a while. I guess it depends on your definition of "gaffe." Outright homophobia, misogyny and racism are openly championed by parts of the far right now where I don't think they would've been even 10 years ago, so it's hard to predict what the base of that party will be for or against anymore.

Honestly, at times in 2012 it felt more like they were fully behind whoever could say the most outlandish thing and QUICKLY turned against people who have dared to show middle of the road positions like Jeb Bush's highly controversial stance on showing compassion to immigrants who only came to America in the name of love.

And the Republicans still have this dream of making inroads with the Hispanic voters, though that ship may have sailed at this point.

I thought this was awfully telling. They seem "gleeful" that they might make some inroads with Jews. http://news.yahoo.com/angry-over-israel ... 46035.html

Y'know, as if there's a giant, continually growing Jewish population in the United States that they should be using to their political advantage.

Jews would have more money, as per stereotype, I suppose.

Well, organizations such as AIPAC have enormous influence in Washington, mainly in the area of foreign policy, and mainly to advance the interests of the State of Israel. Or at least, the perceived interests of the SOI as articulated by the rightist Likud party and their Stateside neocon supporters. As do institutions dominated by wealthy Jews, such as Hollywood.

Try reading this sometime, it'll make ya think: mearsheimer.uchicago.edu/pdfs/A0040.pdf
