Shows we have 'cancelled' for ourselves

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

And I find the non-acting bird lady's teeth distracting.

I'm fourteen episodes in. All the things mentioned above annoy me, but the thing that bothers me most is just how stupid these people are. I realize characters are occasionally made to do stupid things to drive a plot forward, and I realize it happens more with serial entertainment than it does elsewhere, but the show really takes it to an extreme. These people make the dumbest fucking decisions I think I've ever seen characters make. It happens on a weekly basis. It's worse than actual comics. It's worse than daytime soaps.

I am not sure how long chasing a boring dude across time whilst bickering can propel a show alone.

At this point they've had four or five legitimate opportunities to kill him. Really kill him, I mean, since he has to be killed by Kendra or Carter with a weapon present at the time of their initial meteor exposure.
I'm guessing they sew up this end by the end of the season. If they don't, it'll more than likely spell doom for the show. I have an episode left. I'll use a spoiler tag to let you know how the season concludes. I doubt anyone gives enough of a shit for the spoiler tag to be necessary, but I'll use one.

Re: Shows we have 'cancelled' for ourselves
I was really into the Last Ship's first season. I watched about half of the second season and now the third season is starting and I am finding myself failing to have any enthusiasm to finish up last season or start this season.

I gave up on True Blood halfway through season two. I wanted to like it but it just didn't jive with me. I thought "Bill Compton" was a terrible character. Maybe another actor other than Moyer would have made him more appealing. Maybe.

Re: Shows we have 'cancelled' for ourselves
I watched two episodes. Rutina Wesley's fake southern accent may be the worst I've ever heard. I was told she was featured pretty heavily throughout the show. I chose giving up the show over listening to her continuing to mangle the accent. Some of the other accents weren't so great, either, but hers was just too bad to bear.
I've been told her accent gets better. I sure as fuckin' hell hope so, man. If anybody out there has watched the show and can pinpoint where it gets better, let me know. I may read some synopses and start watching the show from the gets-better point.

I'm pretty sure you've heard me try a Southern accent. Hers surely can't be worse than mine.

Speaking of bad accents does anyone else think that Peter Dinklage does a pretty crappy English one? Great actor, no question. But that twang just is not convincing. I hear it and think bad Canadian Shakespeare. Same with Little Finger. And he's an Irishman.

I guess her accent is a lot more over-the-top than mine was in the Uncle Beau video. I think that was probably my best shot at a Southern accent.

Dorne is the pokey-outey bit just to the South and East of the capital isn't it?? Or have I got my Westeros geography wrong?

Re: Shows we have 'cancelled' for ourselves
Ah, very true. I'll phrase it this way. Why is Tyrion's Westrosi accent so off putting considering his siblings speak with a south-west English twang?neglet wrote:I didn't know Westeros was part of Britain.Scotia wrote:Speaking of bad accents does anyone else think that Peter Dinklage does a pretty crappy English one? But I digress. Like most North Americans I've always assumed ancient Romans, dark age Vikings and fantasy folk all have British accents.

Re: Shows we have 'cancelled' for ourselves
If Westeros is the UK (with a wall to keep out the Nothern hordes from the frozen North and the capital on an Eastern facing river from an estuary in that rough position) then the sticky out Southern bit is Dorne/Kent. Where do I find the Sand Snakes?? For realz!
