UK Election Time

Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

2nd result coming in....... looks like a Labour hold again. Again it was a safe seat for them.

Yup - Labour hold - again a UKIP surge.

3rd result - also a Labour safe seat.....

Labour hold - UKIP surge. UKIP probably aren't going to win a lot of seats but they are going to get a good aggregate of the total vote. 16.3% swing to them in this seat.

Lib Dem wipe out again.

Found the BBC feed. Labour man is trying desperately to spin the exit poll. Journalist isn't having it.

What's everybody's issue with the Lib Dems? I'm not sure I understand that. As an outsider, they look pretty good to me.

Plus Nick Clegg and I went to the same college. How could he be trouble?!

Nick Robinson sounds like he's caught a nasty cold. Is he okay?

Probably been a very long few days for him, plus a longer night ahead. I don't believe this exit poll right now.

I wouldn't dismiss it. The exit polls wound up being far more accurate than the pre-election polls here in November.

Ed Balls claimed there's a constitutional route to Ed Miliband leading the government, even if the exit polls are correct. How does that work?

It's shaping up as though Dalty is going to wake up happy and with a newfound gratitude for the Scots.

Glenfiddich and the like has that effect on me, except for the "waking up happy" part.

Say, would you crackers like to hear about the time I met the Loch Ness Monster? Ooh, it must have been about seven, eight years ago. I was out on this boat, you see, all alone at night, when all of a sudden this huge creature--this giant crustacean from the Paleolithic era--comes out of the water. It stood above me looking down with these big, red eyes, and I yelled, I said, "What do you want from me, monster?" And the monster bent down and said, "I need about Glenfiddy."

What the fuck happened whilst I was asleep?? Jesus! Clegg, and probably Miliband and Farage will be resigning this morning.

Good news from Jockestan is that maybe they will actually fuck off this time!

This is unbelievable. Conservatives one seat away from a total majority.

Miliband (Labour) resigned.
Clegg (Lib Dem) resigned.
Farage (UKIP) resigned.

So Cameron has gone from facing a fight for his political life with a forgone conclusion of needing another coalition to sitting pretty with 3 of his opponents out of a job in his wake. Jeebus!!!!

And the Jockestanis can't influence even with their landslide North of the border.

Seismic shock really.

So basically, Labour fucked up by angering the Scots, Lib Dems fucked up by angering everybody who'd ever voted for them before, UKIP fucked up by not angering enough people, and the Conservatives did best by angering people, but only a little?

The boundaries between constituencies unfairly favour the SNP and the Labour Party, so even with the deck stacked in their favour they couldn't muster a majority together. So it's taking a while to sink in.

The venom, bile and hatred being spewed on left-wing discussions forums is pretty terrible at the moment, as is the divisive shit the Labout party are coming out with even in defeat. It's not painting them in a good light.

I think this is the second time you accidentally typed Labout instead of Labour, and the first thing I thought of both times is that it's cool there's a political party in England named after a Canadian beer. Of course, it's pronounced "Laboat."

So last night, I kept hearing that the Lib Dems "lost their deposit" in certain races.

Is that just a figure of speech, or does that actually mean something?

In order to stand as an MP anywhere, the individual or Party has to stand up a certain amount of cash as a deposit. If they get below a certain amount (5% of the vote I think, but I am too Ipsy to Google it) then they don't get their cash back.
