Very British Problems

Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Very British Problems

Post by Dalty »

Out for breakfast. My toast was missing from my order. I didn't complain because "I didn't want to make a fuss."

When I asked them to take it off my bill at the end, I actually apologised while asking.

That sounds very Canadian, in fact. Between the two of us, we're like the Axis Of Passive Aggressiveness.

I was going to make the "That sounds very Canadian" comment, but I was afraid of offending Spacey.

Thankfully, this song no longer applies to me:

Even so, I like the song.

I decided to keep my head. I did this by not forgetting what the Good Book says.

If you don't do this when making plans, the Devil may fool with these plans. It matters not how well-laid said plans are.

Last time the British conquered the world, they weren't very polite about it.

We were very bloody civilised though. Every afternoon at 2:30 sharp we stopped the genocide for afternoon tea.

I could go on at length about the evils of the British Empire, but that would be slightly hypocritical, given that Canada is a direct product of said Empire.

Of course, I might feel differently if I were writing from a Native Reserve...

I think we have a picture of what that looked like:

They weren't reserved, that's why they had to be oppressed. As opposed to repressed, then things would have been fine.

On Sunday I reached "Peak British"

I was in a village that looked like it came from a TV show. I had afternoon tea. Then I apologised to somebody after they bumped into me!

I shall commence wearing a bowler hat to work immediately!!

I thought "Peak British" occurs when you're running away from a stampede of offended young women, angry housewives and irate old people while "Yakety Sax" is playing in the background?

;) :D

How is Benny Hill perceived by Britishers nowadays?

When I was younger, I found him pretty unfunny, but I also figured I only found him pretty unfunny because I was younger. When I got older, I still found him pretty unfunny.

Now that I'm even older, will I find him funny? I'm not sure. I doubt I have the patience to try to revisit any his sketches, to be honest. I don't know if I can sit through the constant mugging. (Look how cheeky he's being! Go on, look! I SAID LOOK, GODDAMN IT!)

I have this memory of him being like a British Tim Conway. Oddly enough, I found Tim Conway pretty funny when I was younger.
