So, midway thru season three of HOC and Doug is back on the team. It gave me butterflies. I love those manipulative bastards.

And Remy. I have loved his development over the last few seasons. Glad we're seeing that he's deeper than just the political shark he once was. He actually loves Sharpe and it's heartbreaking.

I really need to start watching that show. Have the original 3 UK tv series it was based on in my DVD collection. Need to find the time.
Is "Riviera" worth picking up?

Went and caught a matinee of Spiderman:Homecoming today. Pretty good flick. Funny post-credit scene.

Just finished "Glow" on netflix.
Really good show, character based and pretty grounded surprisingly.
I suspect it would be enjoyable even if you don't like wrestling.

Yeah, but this way there's no Dave Franco to ruin it.

I was hoping you'd say, "I beat it to the Fappening."

Currently working my way through Season 4 of Agents of SHIELD. Had all the episodes saved on my DVR, but they're streaming on Netflix so I am catching up.
Forgot how fun the series can be. Coulson is awesome. Wish it had tighter ties to the MCU films, but there's enough there to keep me interested.

"Dunkirk" in 70mm. Good film, great Zimmer score, but perhaps not the best thing for a Navy mom to watch. Eep, bad shit happens to ships.

Watching "Ross Kemp: Extreme World"
He's a BAFTA award winning journalist (and ex-soap actor, unbelievably) who goes and spends time with extremist groups across the world to try and tell both sides of the story. Spent time with the mafia in Naples, people traffickers in Libya, Phillipine drug gangs, Mexican cartels, Hezbollah in Palestine etc etc.
Tonight's episode is with White Supremacist and Black Militia members in Texas. Horrifying stuff. And the Antifa, the Guerilla Mainframe and Red Guard stuff is every bit as horrifying as the Nazi lunatics.

Punisher: War Zone
Never bothered watching it before, the reviews were so bad. Got to admit, kinda enjoying its OTT violence and straightforward approach to mayhem!!

It spoke directly to a very specific sort of Punisher fan.

I imagine character, motivation and nuance were not high on their list.

Mostly, they just wanted a stone-faced guy to go around murdering bad people dead and being so much of a badass that it comes across goofy.

Re: What are you lookin' at?! Right now...
In the Beginning when they showed the mob party and Punisher breaking in I got very giddy, anticipating a replication of the massacre in the MAX version. And then he hung upside down and spun around like [choose one: Irish brothers/ Ice T]. About the time they turned McGintey into a happy parkour expert who eats a rocket I had mostly checked out.
It sits around the same level as the Mario brothers movie. It features many elements that sound like things I expect (McGintey, Ink, PIttsy, etc...) but none of them are in any way represenative of their comic book counter parts. And then it lays on a level of absurd that didn't mesh well with that current version of Punisher (A "Welcome back Frank" take might have held up better with that tone)
Not that it's a total write off. It has fun moments, I really liked the origin for Jigsaw, and Soap was pretty funny.
But it was not my Punsher, and I'm not sure whose it would be.
Frankly, I really liked the Thomas Jane movie. It was not perfect, and his family massacre was way over-the-top, but it sat real well with me.
I would also really love to see James Purefoy play the Punisher at some point, he's a good actor and looks absolutely perfect for the role.

I saw Dunkirk today. I was thoroughly impressed with every aspect of the film, with the possible exception of the lack of blood, even for a PG movie.
But I suppose that is a small nit to pick.

I also finally got around to watching Looper the other day. I enjoyed the overall mood and tempo of the movie, and the originality of the premise. Even if it seemed a tad implausible--though I tend to find time travel stories in general pretty implausible these days. At least they had a novel approach to how paradoxes would manifest themselves.
JG Levitt did a good job at replicating Bruce Willis' mannerisms and tics. Emily Blunt again proves that British actors are great at American accents, even if the reverse is often not true.
