What kind of stuff is the little guy saying? My son has been babbling for a few months now, but he's not forming real words yet. Mama seems to be the only consistent one, and then he has an assortment of other sounds he makes, but we can't tell whether they have an actual meaning to him (i.e., whether there is an association in his mind between the sound he makes and a certain object or concept).

Had I but world enough, and time, I'd map out the specifics of the pidgin Jubbers and I have developed to be able to communicate with Jubboiter.

It's amazing to me how kids develop language and how adults learn to understand them. When my buddy's daughter was young (hell, she's a freshman in college now, fuck I am old), I used to hang out at their house and I learned to understand what she was saying. Zoomzoom was her word for my motorcycle.

Mama, Dada, Gram (or an approximation of, when he sees my mum) and his favourite “Yeah!”

My favourite is when he is sitting at the dinner table in his high chair and all the adults are talking and he sits there burbling and babbling away, looking at people and trying to contribute and looking very pleased with himself about it. Bless him!

It’s funny, I thought my son wasn’t speaking real words on a regular basis until later in toddlerhood until I watched some videos years later and realized he was talking, I just couldn’t understand him.
