Alabama, Ladies and Gentlemen!

Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

If Trump wants to institute cruel and unusual punishment for cases like this, I wouldn't say no. Jesus.

Along the lines of Trump & Cruel and Unusual punishment, Alabama Senator Jeff Sessions is apparently going to be the new Attorney General.

So long, all brown people in America. It's been real. :(

OK - I am clinging onto the belief that America is generally not going to suddenly become a totally non-progressive state that shifts direction completely.......... is it? Surely there will be a sense of equilibrium somewhere?

There's going to be severe, extreme over reach before the majority of people see a need to fight back. If they ever do.

But either way, the overreach is coming. No doubt about it with these cabinet picks.

I am viewing it as an elastic like correction. It's pinging back too far the other way after being stretched but sooner or later it has to settle in the middle. Hopefully before Jan.

But I feel I may be over optimistic.

Hey, look, the Alabama school system's actually considering doing away with paddling:

http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2016/1 ... it_ma.html

The page's "Comments" button isn't working for me, but I imagine a lot of the comments that will wind up on the page will be pretty predictable. There are sure to be some angry people complaining about how the absence of spanking is what's wrong with modern society. I'm sure there'll be talk about how the kids of today are too entitled and don't know their place and about how spanking would give them structure/put the proper fear in them/learn them some respect. I'm sure someone will eventually pull out the ol' "I was spanked as a kid, and I turned out fine!" line.

Some of the comments people have left on the first article are pretty fucked up, too.

Here's a profile on my old school posted on AL.com:

http://www.al.com/news/index.ssf/2017/0 ... his_r.html

AL.com is sort of the Alabama version of USA Today. I say "my old school," but it's not exactly accurate. Crossville now has a grammar school, a middle school, and a high school, and each gets its own building on its own plot of land. When I was there, K-6 was called "elementary," 7-12 was called "high school," and both were in the same building. Whatever the case, the graduation rate seems to be up. When I was a senior, only eighty-five percent of my class (sixty-eight of eighty students) graduated.

It's a decent profile, but I'm a little miffed that my mother, the assistant principal, isn't mentioned a single time.

I was also miffed by that. And still miffed that she's not getting to replace the retiring principal.

My original post got pretty specific, miff-wise, but I decided to cut everything but what is now the post's last line.
