Forum and In-Joke Guide

Why bother with any other forum?
Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Forum and In-Joke Guide

Post by Jubbers »

[I'll edit this top post with things as they get added.]

1. If there are any features that you want, or if you want to add another board (currently we have The Lounge Within The Lounge and The Game Room), send me a pm via the button to the left. I've added, per request, a like button on posts, a youtube embed bbcode, and a bbcode that allows for resizing images (fimg).

2. Quick In-Joke Glossary:
  • Jubboiter = daughter of Goiter and Jubbers; future enslaver of mankind.
  • Money Bags = Dalty (or Bananarama's Bouncy Bits), mostly because he takes nice vacations and we are petty jealous people.
  • Ol' Beau Watkins and Ipsitis are discussed here.

Huffy Flounce
The expression huffy flounce is a condensed form of the phrase "to flounce off in a huff" and is a bit more versatile because it can be used as a verb or as a noun. The first instance of it originates from the reaction by Cinematic Lounge user Daltons chin dimple to the dramatic exit of the user Space Tycoon following a heated political debate.
Daltons chin dimple wrote:It was a bit of a flounce, probably accompanied with huffing, that had a touch of 'great big drama queen' about it. This leads me to think he might be joking.
As it became increasingly apparent that Space Tycoon was indeed not joking when he began replacing his posts in the Cinematic Lounge with punctuation marks (predominantly with periods) in an effort to erase his forum history, the phrase started becoming associated with overly dramatic reactions to interactions in the forum. It soon took on a form that more closely combined the words "flounce" and "huff":
Daltons chin dimple wrote:Just face it Adam, there are two threads attacking you directly. I think you should flounce off in a huff about it.
Other users picked it up, albeit with some initial difficulties:
Ipsilon wrote:I feel a huffy-flop coming on...

:)
Ipsilon wrote:Oh, flounce.

I meant huffy-flounce.
Adam54 wrote:There's this Tea Party guy that I work with who once asked me to name one good socialist country. I said "You mean other than our closest ally England?" He was dumbfounded for a second and said "Uh, yeah. Besides them." I said "Okay, how about our second closest ally, Canada?"

He huffy-flounced away, quickly as he could.
Adam54 wrote:You're a peach, Hicksy. I'm sorry I stooped to your level.

Now if everyone will excuse me while I flounce off in a huff. Enjoy him, gang.
Alas, it was not the argument with Corporal_Hicks that sent Adam54 over the edge, but it was instead an unrelated matter outside of the forum that made him the second huffy flouncer in Cinematic Lounge history. Both users eventually returned to the boards.

Notable variant: fluffy hounce

Ipsitis
At some point, Goiter decided that the forum member Ipsilon was the epitome of laziness. He forced this fad to such a degree that expressions such as ipsitis, ipsiness, and ipsed out became synonymous with laziness among the other forum members.

Earliest traceable appearances: ~October 10, 2011, October 12, 2011, ~October 17, 2011

Ol' Beau Watkins
The original concept for the character of Ol' Beau Watkins was borrowed from SNL's "Bill Brasky" sketches, in which a group of drunken salesmen one-up each other in telling tales of their mutual acquaintance. The active forum members of the Cinematic Lounge at Corona Coming Attractions gradually built upon that foundation and created a mythology around the character similar to that surrounding Chuck Norris.

First appearance: week of March 1, 2010
Earliest expansion of the original concept: March 4, 2010

Out of Cruelty
Unlike the origins of some other in-jokes, the origin of the "out of cruelty" line is fairly easy to determine. The joke came out of a series of hyperboles that CCA users were inventing in their descriptions of he manliness of The Expendables. In the spirit of this discussion, Goiter came up with the following gem:
The Swollen Goiter of God wrote:The only macho way for a man to have sex on film is for him to ass-rape another man out of cruelty.
The expression found immediate approval with Quasar and Dalty, who not only perpetuated it in the same thread, but also in various other threads in the weeks to come (see Subsequent appearances below). The repeated use of the phrase ensured its survival in the forum's repertoire of in-jokes.

First appearance: week of August 16, 2010
Subsequent appearances: week of August 16, 2010, week of August 16, 2010, week of September 20, 2010, week of October 11, 2010, week of November 1, 2010, week of November 8, 2010

Notable variant: to be out of cruelty

Why not both? / Strider
Strider was once a regular user of the Cinematic Lounge, but for unknown reasons he withdrew from the Lounge and limited his posts to other parts of Corona Coming Attractions. Also for unknown reasons, Goiter retconned the Strider persona by making him out to be someone who preferred the response "Why not both?" to questions that give two options. In fact, there is only one traceable instance of the actual Strider's use of this phrase.

Strider's use of the phrase: October 21, 2010
Goiter's appropriation of the phrase: May 31, 2012

When Chuck Norris wants to speed up his orgasm, he thinks about Ol' Beau Watkins.

It should be mentioned that the orthography for some of these was never quite set. You'll see both "Moneybags" and "Money Bags." You may also see variations on words derived from Ipsilon's name. Some will include a "y," and some won't.

How about we set up a Strider smilie for those of us who don't want to create a sock puppet just to say Striderisms?

That sounds way too practical.

Then again, we could always do... both.

Somebody should probably define a huffy flounce, and Adam's enduring place in it.

Could be. Between them, there has been a few. Was it when Spacey was going through his Period period?

I'm working on it... I just wanted to give it the same treatment that I gave the other two I've done so far and to find the earliest traceable usage on Corona.

You find something lacking about the bearer of the future enslaver of mankind, and a woman who can crush concrete with her bare hands ... blind-folded? Why don't you come closer and explain that to me.

As memory serves, I feel like I may have huffy flounced away, then flounced back, then got mad at Spacey who then flounced away, leading everyone to get mad at me, at which point I huffy flounced away again for a couple of years.

Fun memories. Thanks, you Limey Git!

Don't worry, Dalty. Concrete crushing's all flash. It's way harder to smash in a skull.

It can still be done. It's just harder.

That's why I also use my feet to break things. Size 9.5, I should be 5'10".

I was always annoyed by brick and board breaking back when I was being made to do it. It felt to me like it looked more impressive than it actually was. Seemed like it was all for show. Any skill a prepubescent, suburbanite kid can master (and with little more than a few hours' worth of training per week) can't be all that difficult a skill to master.

Foot breaks can be something to crow about, since aim and balance are thrown off a good deal.

Although I don't intentionally use my body to break things, it still happens with alarming regularity.

I'm 6'3". According to my mother, the doctors told her my growth would more than likely be stunted. They said I'd probably grow to be a few inches shorter than would have been the case if I hadn't let my femurs get snapped in half.

Of course, my mother's a liar. For all I know, the doctors told her the breaks would make me grow taller. For all I know, the doctors didn't tell her a damned thing.
