We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Putin is getting angrier but the Saudis are opening the taps more because they can do nothing but that, or perish.
This will stop when it starts to really hurt Western oil companies who weren't in.

There's no chance this'll make any of the Western companies go "Hey! We've got a bunch of cash stored up. Let's invest it in a renewable energy that the Saudis can't control! That'll show 'em!" right?

Got regular for $2.09 in Michigan last week. Saw it for $2.99 in Chicago today.
Good thing I don't need gas in Chicago.

Ol' Goiter never needs gas.
There's a slight chance he may knead it. How? Why? Unimportant. Just rest assured it's something he's capable of doing.

A lot of the large Energy Co's invest a hell of a lot in renewables and research. Enough? That's a matter of opinion and they don't do it out of kindness, but they do it.Adam54 wrote:There's no chance this'll make any of the Western companies go "Hey! We've got a bunch of cash stored up. 16 years ago we were supposed to be living on the moon in shiny jumpsuits. And wasn't Blade Runner 2019? It's getting close!!

From the article:"Despite not finishing high school, he had been raking in $100,000 a year after working his way up as a deckhand. Now his company is enacting a 12% pay cut to cope with the energy industry pullback. "
I am sorry, but I am having a hard time feeling bad for a HS dropout who is having to take a paycut to 88 THOUSAND DOLLARS a year.

This energy industry pullback is seriously going to leave some serious hats on the ground. What comes out the end might be brilliant, but getting there is potentially going to be a motherfucker. Seriously. I would be worried. It's large.

I have two cousins that live in Williston, SD, one since before the gas boom and one who found work there after. I heard some scary stories about people paying over $1000/month to rent a garage--that's without running water or a bathroom. It will be interesting to see what happens to the economy there if gas continues to stay down.

Williston is North Dakota, isn't it?neglet wrote:I have two cousins that live in Williston, SD, one since before the gas boom and one who found work there after. Regardless of which Dakota, I've honestly never had the guts and/or ambition to travel much beyond the Minnesota border of either state. It's the wild, wild west out there. Especially in North Dakota. I'd never make it.

Re: Adam's Gas Price Flounceup
Five years ago I would've suggested they just merge back into one Dakota since neither state had anything going for it anyway, but now I'm sure North Dakota is acting all snooty and superior to South Dakota, what with their oil boom and remarkably expensive housing and such.
Oh, and gas was $1.87 at the cheapest spot on the way into work this morning.

Re: Adam's Gas Price Flounceup
North Dakota also has Fargo! Fargo is the gold standard of "mixed feelings" for all Minnesotans.
On the one hand, it's a sneakily cool college town which has really made great strides over the past decade or so. It's easily the least North Dakotan city in North Dakota.
On the other hand, because of the movie Fargo, everyone on the fucking planet thinks that my accent is ridiculous when it's really nowhere near as extreme as they make it out to be.

Re: Adam's Gas Price Flounceup
Stopped to get some gas today. Swiped the card but it never prompted me to enter my PIN. Screen said "lift nozzle and select grade" so I did. Turns out the pump was setup for a prepaid 17 bucks worth of gas. Someone pay and drive off? Station accidentally authorized the wrong pump? Either way I got about 8 gallons of gas for free. Yay me.

Here in Montpelier VT, and gas is $2.49, which is about the same as Chicago. Taxes here must be lovely.
