We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Intense specialization, in-field supremacy, and acknowledged genius form a dangerous cocktail. Who's qualified to challenge his assertions?

Me.
But Ol' Dribbly Wheels is legit. The post of Jubboiter's chief science advisor is as good as filled.

Re: Space News
Sounds like he already has you hawking for him.
Are you doing it of your own volition, or did he pay you with some of his science money?
You already have plenty of the regular kind of money. The regular kind of money may as well be confetti. Science money, on the other hand, is a rare commodity.

It's as rare as Bitcoins but unlike those wasn't just invented out of thin air by people who start to sweat at the sight of a woman.

Re: Space News
I guess that's why I'm more into planetary, near-Earth type astronomy... more direct observational evidence and research, less speculation.
Until we can send a probe to a black hole, or set up a super-telescope in deep space, we will be rather limited in what we know of them.

Re: Space News
Thank you Goits.
Looks like we have yet another potential spot for life in the solar system. And if not, then at least a place to refuel when we get serious about planetary exploration.

Re: Space News
No problem. Looks like you were just missing an "l" at the end of the URL. It's quite possible they could have changed it themselves after you posted it.

Re: Space News
Well, it's like this. We keep walking about down here proclaiming how there is no life in our solar system, right?
But we define life as, well, cellular or a big ol' collection of cells and DNA and carbon and water based gubbins because that is what 'life' is here after a bajillion gazillion years.
But a lot of planets in our solar system are gas planets or other some such weirdness.
So, how do we know they don't contain life? Life that is gas based after all that evolution rather than carbon based like us? And that because we have absolutely no idea what to be looking for, we would have no way to find them or even how to recognise them as 'life' ???
Just sayin'!!

Re: Space News
You have to narrow down your search somehow because it would be extremely inefficient to look for evidence of life everywhere. Because the only type of life forms we know are carbon-based and thrive in environments with water (and sunlight), those are the kinds of environments that scientists are looking for.

So it's life, but only on our narrow terms dictated by this lump of mud and rock and runny stuff?

Then I call foul on our definition of life, as it's arrogant.
