What are you reading right now?

Why bother with any other forum?

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

I've temporarily set aside everything I'm reading so I can read Go Set a Watchman.

I'm hesitant about that one. Her caretaker sister dies and all of a sudden there's a book discovered? It sounds hinky.

I don't feel good about it, but I can't not read it. I'm too close to the material.

The Book/Writing club i'm in may vote to read that next month.
I too feel a bit worried about it, and honestly from what I've heard about it I don't really feel I'd enjoy it. So here's hoping we don't go for it.

I have recently finished "The King in Yellow" (and remain sane) as far as I'm willing. The final two stories keep putting me to sleep but the rest of the book is solid.
I also finished Gillian Flynn's "Dark Places". I really liked that one, the movie looks less than faithful though despite success with "Gone Girl"
I'm currently reading "A Feast of Crows".

One of my earliest childhood memories is that of a beautiful beach and a sprawled Richard Chamberlain being pissed upon by a feudal Japanese noble.

Speaking of Richard Chamberlain, I just read King Solomon's Mines. There's no hot white woman in the text. Despite this, all five adaptations of it have featured one. Thinking about this made me think about how most of the adventure movies featuring a charming male ruffian in the lead also feature some bland female love interest for the lead--even when it's an adaptation of a text with no bland love interest.

I'm sure there are exceptions. Maybe there should be some sort of Bechdel Test-like focus on adventure movies bold enough to feature a charming male ruffian whose love interest either isn't female or isn't present at all.

Another big difference: the book's Quatermain is a short, middle-aged man who freely admits to cowardice. He's been a strapping young(ish) man in all the adaptations.

That's a good one. I like Larsen's books--they just announced that Leonardo DiCaprio is going to star as the serial killer in "Devil in the White City."

I've got Aftermath on the way from Amazon. Going to be hard to wipe out all the EU canon stuff from my memory.

Have you considered masturbation as an alternative pastime?

I manage to masturbate at least ten times a week. It's nowhere near the number of times per week I managed as a teenager, but I'm still pretty proud of it.
