Adam's Gas Price Flounceup

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

$1.57 this morning. I'm rather enjoying the bottom falling out from oil.

Re: Adam's Gas Price Flounceup
It used to be every grade of gas was 10 cents more. While gas is around the same down here, premium is like 50 cents more. I think the gas companies are realizing that more and more cars require premium gas so they are charging more for it to make up for the lower prices of regular gas.

Yep, definitely notice the up charge for premium. Luckily, I don't need to buy it that often for Sparky.
Filled up at $1.54 in Michigan with the other car today. Chicago is still above $2.00.

We're lucky. Our car is cool with the low-grade stuff.

Do people actually buy premium gas? Over here the premium pumps gather dust while everyone else sniggers at the gullible mid-range coupe owner (usually a German car) who thinks it makes a difference. Probably because 6 litre pots with comedy compression rations aren't needed to make a car move here.

I heard from someone that European regular grade is not the same as American regular grade. What's the lowest available octane count at British gas pumps?

I just looked it up. Regular in Germany means 95 octane. That's basically what premium is in the US.

Mal is correct. I checked with the guy at Audi when I was there. He said its 'cos US gas is lower quality. In the U.K. it's usually 95 RON and in the U.S. it can be as low as 80 on a forecourt.
Add that to comically large and inefficient engines and your compression timing would be so fucked you'd have no choice but to shell out for this "Premium".

Well, I guess you get what you pay for. You guys pay a shit-ton for a liter of gas. Good thing it's decent gas.
My gas is free, but it's still quality gas.

Well, they recommend it for Sparky because it sits in the tank for so long before it actually gets used.Dalty wrote:Do people actually buy premium gas? I considered a hybrid this time round. For about 45 seconds.

You'll need a lot of power to gun your motor and zoom through London streets at 100+ miles an hour. I assume you'll also be pulling boats and campers and tackling all sorts of rugged terrain.

No boat and camper towing. My boat lives in a marina.
I studiously checked the pumps when I got gas this PM. Regular unleaded was 95 RON. Premium was 98 RON. Now..... what Ron's wife feels about this is unconfirmed.
