Fun Japanese Things

Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

That is a universal truth. I'm not so sure that potato and chocolate go together, however.

What's your take on chocolate-covered potato chips? My grandmother used to make them a good bit.

According to France, everybody but France has been fucking food up for centuries. Even the Italians, says France. ESPECIALLY THE ITALIANS!

Says France.

Yeah, then they got the raging hump when it turned out some countries had more Michelin stars than them. Sent them loopy.

But didn't those other countries get their Michelin stars by serving mostly French cuisine?

Nope - local ingredients and staying true to those ingredients is usually a good way to a Michelin star. I have three myself.

Four same-brand tires? That's how I know you're rich.

Mixed tires are bad for a car. The AWD transfer system on my X5 was very disagreeable to decent tires on the back and cheap Korean jobs on the front.

If you have an SUV or truck with AWD or active 4 WD it'll do more expensive damage in the medium term than a set of tyres.

Yahoo! (or Y!) is bigger in Japan than here; they have the biggest auction site (eBay gave up on Japan) and they also, as advertised below, do mobile service. Softbank advertises their mobile phones with the white shiba; Y! does it with a cat:

I used to work at LinkShare (owned by Rakuten) and was amazed by how "little" Google and Apple were in Japan.

As a lover of all things Japanese, I regret not noticing this thread sooner. I also regret not being able to be on HF more often to notice this thread sooner.

Unfortunately, not all the images load for me at the office.
