It really hit my mother hard. Of course, she did have a child get hit by a commercial vehicle.

Re: What are you lookin' at?! Right now...
It's the weirdest fucking thing. I used to be a bit of a cold bastard especially around 'kids in peril' situations. In Jaws 2 I was cheering for the shark. But since I became a father I find myself getting emotional at things involving kids. And I can't even begin to watch any telethon type thing with kids suffering in all their short charity films. I skip over stories in the newspaper when terrible things have happened to a kid......

Watched Dr Strange finally. Had it on DVD but NetFlix released it on streaming. Also, after hearing Bill Burr on the Bill Simmons podcast, decided to give his F is for Family a shot. First season was decent, and just started second season. I like it because it has an over-all story arch unlike most animated series.

I'm only just now watching Dr Strange on Netflix as well. Damn, I wish I saw it in the theatre.

Just got into House of Cards. Binged the first and second season now starting the third. For the life of me I don't know how this show slipped by my radar. Superior acting and an extremely timely subject matter. I get horny knowing there are still 4 more seasons to enjoy.

This time last year I might have said that the later seasons were a tad on the far fetched side of things. Not anymore.

HoC is consistently terrific.
Did my bit this weekend to make a statement about female-led/directed films and saw "Wonder Woman." My 12-year-old self is in ecstasy, and my current self was well-pleased, too.
Takeaway: Put Robin Wright in more stuff.

Robin Wright and the viewing public are just like peas and carrots, again.

Kubo and the Two Strings--had assumed this was a dubbed Japanese flick, but it's a US studio. Pretty cool-looking stop-motion (although I think they use green-screen backgrounds and compositing), and a decent story. Enjoyable.

Star Trek VI
Forgotten how good the battle at the end is, and The Shat being excellent full-on Kirk.

You know what? I like every TOS Star Trek movie. III and VI are a bit cringeworthy at times, but so is IV. I absolutely love TMP (whether Director's Edition or not, but I especially like the Director's Edition) and II. II is a straight-up masterwork, but everyone already knows this.

Whenever II is coming on Sky Movies I always find myself watching it, then I can never turn the damn thing off. It's just THAT good!
V is still weak. I have a contrary view to the rest of the world about IV.

I meant to mention V, but I forgot. I think it's the weakest of the bunch, but that god/starship scene is fuckin' great.

It suffered from some fairly major budget cuts leading to scenes having to be rewritten and cut completely if I recall.

Re: What are you lookin' at?! Right now...
Did some traveling this week, so I watched a couple of movies on the plane. Edge of Seventeen: Remember this one coming out and seeing the trailer and thinking it would be a pretty good movie. It was funny, but I had trouble relating to the characters. Yeah, I know, a middle aged guy having trouble relating to a teenage girl main character, hard to believe. Still a decent movie, I'd give it a solid C+/B-
Creed: Bill Simmons was really pushing this movie when it came out. Unfortunately, my flight landed with about 20 minutes left in the movie so I haven't seen it all, but I have the DVD from NetFlix so I will watch it to see the end. Overall, I was not really impressed. Seemed like a rehash of the original Rocky.

Hulu had a new doc, "Becoming Bond," about George Lazenby that looked interesting. It's just him being interviewed, and after fifteen minutes of reenactments of school experiences and his first girlfriends (including the details of how he checked to make sure his dick hadn't exploded after popping his cherry), I had to turn it off.

I'm finally getting to the later seasons of The Office that I missed when it was on the air. Andy just can't get a break!

Harrison Ford's career best (according to the blurb) "Witness".
I learned everything I know about the Amish from this movie........ and "Kingpin".
Suffice it to say, I know very little about the Amish.
