We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Re: Soccer
When I was a teen and watched this video played on music channels in Germany, I didn't quite understand why all the German fans would wear the Stefan Kuntz jersey. I knew that he scored the equalizer in the Euro 96 semi-final against England and that he played a crucial role in that game, but it still seemed odd that he would be the player to highlight, next so some of the more recognizable names in German soccer of that period such as Klinsmann, Möller, or Matthäus.

You can't fool me, Mal. Stewart Copeland scored The Equalizer.

When it comes to members of the Police, most people agree that Sting was the Kunt.

We're talking Kuntz in this thread and Kant in another.

Happy because they are tussling with my team for the championship, so having them working hard and distracted in Europe is a good thing.

Re: Soccer
At first I was kind of excited when I saw that Man U and Real Madrid were going to be playing in Michigan Stadium (aka the Big House, capacity 109,000+ but with excellent sightlines), but then my brother-in-law (a huge footie fan who attended the Seoul World Cup in person) pointed out that besides only being exhibition games, none of the stars would probably be playing because it's a World Cup year and they'll all be tired. Still, the Big House has awesome atmosphere. Gave me a little kick this past weekend when I ran a 5K that finished there.

Re: Soccer
Bosnia is playing an exhibition match in St. Louis against the Ivory Coast on May 30. I'm kind of curious about the lineups for that match. Surely, they won't be risking injury to their best players so close to the World Cup, so I doubt that either Džeko or Drogba will be playing. Kind of a shame, since we don't get to see these kinds of events on a regular basis here... except when Bosnia played Argentina at Busch Stadium last fall.

Re: Soccer
Serious question here: Isn't it technically a soccer match? Or is it okay to say game? I've been corrected by soccer loving friends here before, but have never gone straight to an actual Englishman for a definitive answer.
Unless I have and have just completely forgotten. In which case, carry on.

Re: Soccer
It seems overly particular and uppity to demand the use of the word match in relation to soccer. "Did you see the match yesterday?" sounds way too awkward to expect anyone to actually say it.

Re: Soccer
The match or the game are equally used.
