We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. It smokes any of the Iron Man flicks.
As a pure action film it is pretty amazing.

You'd rather smoke bank notes. Because you're rich.

I really liked it.
Lots of good action, and I really dug the expanded usage of the shield.

Dance.
He's a Vibraniac (Vibraniac!) in the field!
And he's accessorizing smartly with his shield!

Isn't that cartoon showcasing the choreography from Lady Gaga's 'Bad Romance'? First Thursty defends the indefensible (Beiber), and now he's going Gaga.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
Finally saw this. Annoyed by teenagers in front of us who kept talking and texting during the movie. I wanted to kick their seats. Anyway, thought this was definitely better than the first Cap movie, but don't think it compares to Iron Man. I just don't find Cap as interesting a character, although this did a decent job of giving him some depth. Liked his interplay with Natasha, and the winged sidekick was way cool. And more Sam Jackson is always good. So I liked more about it than I didn't.

I need to see it still, but all the reviews over here are very positive.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
I saw it. I'd say it was pretty thoroughly entertaining. Which isn't to say it was great. I'd put it in the very decent-to-good range; I don't have really high expectations for movies like this, action-y type movies, and it exceeded them. I like Cap: he's sort of endearingly straight-arrow. Also, this movie probably makes the best use of Black Widow so far (maybe; now that I think about it I guess I'm not positive about that, because I felt the same way about 'The Avengers', but she doesn't have as many characters to compete with for screen time and plot usefulness this go round). The Falcon (or whatever they call him) was in it, and that's about all I have to say about him. The action is very well done: obviously a lot of effort went into those scenes, and it shows. The Winter Soldier was pretty cool, in the sort of "number one henchman of the bad guys" role; the revelation about his character didn't really do anything for me, except to maybe make him a little less cool, but not a big complaint for me. I wasn't a big fan of the first Cap'n movie, but not really a detractor either: this one is a step or two up, IMO. The 'Half-In-The-Bag' guys had similar feelings about the movie, in a spoilery review (they didn't bother to do a non-spoiler section at the beginning for this one), and they end the review with a funny game where they try to remember the plots of various superhero films.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
I just started watching the Half in the Bag episode, and it reminded me of something I meant to mention back when I watched it.
SPOILER: Captain America: The Winter Soldier is like a condensed version of the Star Wars prequels, albeit more satisfying. Mike mentions that he got a Phantom Menace vibe from it, and he mentions the Jedi Council-like hologram meeting. He also mentioned Mace Windu/Nick Fury being betrayed by his higher-up.
I don't know if they're going to go more in depth with their connections later on in the episode, but I'm going to go ahead and list some of the parallels my brain made while I was watching the movie:

Bucky/The Winter Soldier is essentially Anakin.

Redford is Palpatine.

The hit taken out on Fury is more or less Order 66.

Captain America is more or less Obi-Wan.

Hydra's plans for the Helicarrier are pretty much the same as the Sith's plans for the Death Star.

Bucky leaves Cap at the edge of a lake after their battle, pretty much the same way Obi-Wan leaves Anakin.

The movie begins with a botched negotiation--same as the prequels.
There are some more superficial similarities, too, like the Black Widow's use of a fake face to deceive someone (like the Changeling in Episode II), or the secreting away of Crossbones's/Rumlow's burned body at the end (it's somewhat like Anakin being put in the Vader armor).
These are, admittedly, a stretch. It could be that none of this was conscious on Marvel's part. It could be that the Star Wars movies are so ingrained in the public consciousness that people can't help but borrow from them--especially when making an tent-pole action extravaganza. (Granted, the Star Wars movies borrow plenty, too.) It could also be that my brain is forcing connections because the Star Wars movies are so ingrained in my particular consciousness.
I'd connect Cap being frozen in ice to Han being frozen in Carbonite, but the comics froze Cap in ice more than half a century ago.

Re: Captain America: The Winter Soldier
I FINALLY saw this this wekeend. Had to wait for a time when I could get together with nephews.
Very well done, I thought. Missed the second post credits scene though.
I guess I have to make Agents of Shield part of my rotation again.

It's about, only one or two shows a week, but it's still there. However they have started the pre-order ads online and in stores.
