X-Men: Days of Future past

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Makes me want to go grab my BluRay of First Class and refresh my memory.

I saw a lot of people whining about this trailer when it first showed up, but I liked it.

The ghost of Steve Jobs says I am too foreign to enjoy that.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future past
I am definitely interested. I am not a huge X-Men fan, but I like the combination of the First Class and the other X-Men series into one movie.

I still have nerves that Vaughn isn't directing.

It is kind of alarming that Singer has been living/working off the goodwill of The Usual Suspects for almost 20 years now.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future past
It really is. I liked X2 and about 3/4 of Superman Returns. Didn't care for Valkyrie. Haven even bothered with his beanstalk movie. I guess I liked the House episodes he directed. I remember thinking Apt Pupil wasn't really good or bad. It was just there. McKellen's good in it.
Scorsese doesn't have to market his movies with a "From the Director of Taxi Driver" line.
On the whole, I guess Singer's output has been better than Shyamalan's. There's a guy who has *really* been working off the goodwill of his early career as a director.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future past
I was going to mention Shymalan, but now at you list Singer's work(s) I kind of think I prefer Shymalan's good ones over Singer's.
I really, really like Unbreakable and Signs. I've only seen The 6th Sense once and I thought it was good, not great.
None of those are The Usual Suspects, but in retrospect is X2 really *that* good?

Re: X-Men: Days of Future past
It doesn't have as much replay value as I thought it would the first time I saw it. I still like a lot of it. It feels like a bigger world than the first one. The third one also felt pretty small. Every scene felt to me like it was filmed on a studio set.
The thing The Sixth Sense has going for it is solid kid acting. It's a rarity. Also, Willis is a co-lead. He works best when he's a co-lead or in the supporting cast. He hits the right notes, and he doesn't default to smirk mode.
I like Unbreakable, but I haven't seen it since I saw it in the theater. I like Signs right up until the last act. It's pretty dumb. It betrays the rest of the movie that came before it. The CG bad guy, the water allergy, the regaining of faith: all these things are bad. The thing that annoys me the most, though, is the "His lungs were closed!" bit. I'm not sure Shyamalan knows how asthma works. I'm a lifelong sufferer. I've been hospitalized for it a couple times. The whole bit rubbed me the wrong way.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future past
Was wondering how they were going to deal with QS in both movies.
That must have been a fun lawyer session on getting to decide who and what can be mentioned in regards to QS and SW...

Re: X-Men: Days of Future past
It's unclear if Fox'll be using the father/son connection between Magneto and Quicksilver. If they aren't going to, I don't know why they even bother with using the character. That's a big part of what makes him interesting.
I think the article's writer more or less said the same thing.

I heard that the movie wasn't all that, and that secret last minute re-shoots are underway pretty intensively.

Re: X-Men: Days of Future past
I think "It can't possibly be all that!" about a lot of movies, and am happy to be proved wrong.
This I heard from somebody. Then I heard it repeated on the quiet when discussing Singer's bigger current woes.
