St. Louis Comic Con

Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

St. Louis Comic Con

Post by Mango »

So I spent today at Comic Con. It was pretty awesome.

I met Bruce Campbell and Ted Raimi. I got them both to sign my Necronomicon. At the comicon.
And then I had an understanding about how expensive and time consuming chasing after signatures can get.
Ted seemed a bit bored, but he talked to us for a bit. I had one of those stupid fan moments where I just nodded along to what he was saying. I feel bad that he had to meet me.
It took me almost two hours to see Bruce, but he was looking good and seemed happy to be there. He even personalized the signature a bit despite our being told that he wouldn't. He was all "Let me give you some advice" and then wrote "Burn this book." Oh man, so friggin' awesome.
He was also happy to see that I had Ted's signature already, and also while I was there Sean Astin popped in to give Bruce a hug.
Wish I had brought my anniversary edition of "Goonies."

I also got to talk to Yale Stewart. He draws the web comic "JL8" which I think awesome. He's a really nice guy and tolerated my blathering. I bought one of his prints because It was cool and I wanted to support his continued writing of JL8.

A friend got Lou Ferrigno to sign some stuff. He said Lou was really bored and a bit standoffish. But huge.

Another friend is on a quest to have all the "Firefly" cast to sign her copy of the "Serenity" role playing book. Yesterday she got Summer Glau, Adam Baldwin, and Alan Tudyk. Today she got Nathan Fillion to sign. He was excited to see the rule book and circled his favorite aspect on his character's write-up ('things don't go smooth' for the record). Then he signed his name...over the character history text. He then apologized and signed it again next to his picture.

There were some really cool Mass Effect cosplayers, a really good Thor, the most polite Boba Fett, so many Jayne Cobbs, and a duo dressed as Dean Winchester and Castiel.
Also a duo dressed as Velma and Iron man/Mystery machine. Two sexy Catwomen, three super sexy Zatannas, and a handful of sexy Harley Quinns. So much finery.

We were in St. Louis yesterday. We hope to be living in St. Louis next year, but who knows? I missed out on last year's and this year's St. Louis Comic Con. Maybe next year I will get to go.

Felt Pelt won a free photo with a celebrity of his choosing at a Memphis con last year. I think it was for winning a trivia contest. He had Ernie Hudson, Stan Lee, James Marsters, Billy Dee Williams, and Eliza Dushku as options. He asked me for advice on which to choose, so I ranked them in order of personal preference. My recommendation, in order of favorite to least favorite: Lee, Williams, Hudson, Marsters, Dushku. For me, Lee would have been way out in front. I guess I could flip Hudson and Marsters. It would depend on the day. Hudson and Williams earn points for being taller than the rest. I don't really like the idea of towering over the celebrity I'm in the photo with. (I wouldn't have towered over Lee. I would have been carrying him as though he were my new bride. That, or I'd have given him a piggyback ride.) I'd still be three-ish inches taller than Williams and Hudson--maybe more, since they are old men and are sure to have shrunk--but the height difference would be less pronounced than it would be with the others.

Felty let hormones win out and chose Dushku. She canceled, so he went with Marsters. He didn't really grow up a fan of superhero comics, so I guess I can understand him having no special desire to get his picture taken with Lee. He reads comics occasionally, but they're almost never superhero comics.

Mango, please return immediately and get me Summer Glau, in person please. We'd be really happy together but she just doesn't know because we haven't met, but clearly we would be perfect together.

Thank you please!
