Noteworthy Video Dump

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

This story is both fascinating and sad. It reveals a lot about gamers as well as humans in general:

I'm sharing this because of a humorously miswritten lyric that may lead future generations to believe Darkwing Duck is a staunch conservative.

Judging by that sweater vest that Drake Mallard always wears, chances are he's pretty conservative.

It looks to me like '90s Nintendo commercials in the UK were superior to the American ones.

My favorite part is toward the beginning, where he pretends to be playing during the cutscene.

I think I know now why Jordan Schlansky doesn't smile very often. It's because it makes him look like Bela Lugosi.

I think of him as your less witty, slightly taller older cousin. Whatever the case, I'm half-convinced you're related.

His father was born in a city where much if my extended family on my mother's side lived, so it's not impossible there is some distant family relation between us.
What I find interesting is that he was born and raised in Sweden, but his English accent is more like that of an Eastern European. It's as if he learned English from someone with a Slavic accent.

Re: Noteworthy Video Dump
I've wondered about that. He certainly doesn't sound very Swedish when he speaks English. (I assume he sounds Swedish when he speaks Swedish, but I don't know that I've heard him speak it.) I've wondered if maybe he just never shook his parents' accent or if his parents spoke some English to him in the home. Some colleagues have claimed that one's third language will often sound like one's first language regardless of where/from whom a person learned the third language. I've never looked into it. It's clearly not true for everybody.

Scandinavian, Slavic, English. Let's just call it "80's and 90's action movie villain accent" and call it a day.

Re: Noteworthy Video Dump
Roddy Piper and Andre the Giant predate the brief period in my childhood when I actually followed pro wrestling, so I don't know that much about either of them. Parts of this clip, though, made me pretty sad, although the clip doesn't really tell a sad story. I don't think it's so much what Roddy says about Andre - rather, it's that you can tell it's breaking his heart to admit that there is a theatrical/staged aspect to the business. It's almost like a magician reluctantly revealing how a certain trick is performed.
Of course, Roddy's description of his relationship with Andre is also touching.

Re: Noteworthy Video Dump
I think each generation of wrestlers--with each set having some variation within itself, of course--has its own take on what it means to shoot. The same's probably true for magicians/illusionists.
A lot of it probably just has to do with the times. Modern wrestlers' attitudes might still be pretty close to what they were in the early eighties if it weren't for home video, cable, and the Internet.

"Charity Cornhole Tournament" is the whitest three-word combo I've encountered so far this week.
