I used to drink wine. I like cooking sherries. (You don't tell me what I cook with and what I drink, sherry bottlers. Fuck all y'all. I'm gonna drink it straight.)

I liked Sandeman Don Fino Dry Sherry, specifically. I once filled a 24 oz. Pepsi bottle with it, took it to campus, and downed it about fifteen minutes before giving a presentation. That was back during my thinner days. I was doing it on an empty stomach, too, so it hit harder. It really kicked in when I stood to give my presentation. I was worried that it would lead to disaster, but I was told it was one of my better presentations. Took my time, I was told.

I think maybe my other presentations had all been awful. That might explain why the sherried-up presentation was considered a step above my usual.

Why was I drinking before a presentation in the first place, you ask? It was out of resentment. The professor had cancelled our Thursday class so he could go to some conference somewhere. I was supposed to give the presentation that Thursday. Even though everyone in class suggested Friday as the makeup date, the professor opted for Saturday. He said he didn't want anyone to have to rush to class.

This was in grad school. I was twenty-five at the time. I was already way too old to be doing that kind of shit.

Yes, I live in Texas, so it's almost always Shiner. On the rare occasions it's something else, it could be a St Arnold's from Houston, or something from Rahr in Fort Worth. There's several new microbrews in Deep Elum in Dallas that I need to try.

If I do drink wine, I prefer dry whites. My favorite is an Italian mix called Due Uve, made of Sauvignon Blanc/Pinot Grigio.

Tuesday night means Stitch 'n' Bitch at a local cafe, and half-price wine night. Tonight preferred desert was pear bundt cake, so lovely white Viognier was called for. Usually I order a Rioja, which is my favorite red variety.

Tonight was ginger ale, a little bit of pomegranate limeade, and a shot of gourmet oat whiskey from the local distillery. Mmmmm mmmm tasty.
