We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Re: New Who
One of these days I'll have to get into Dr. Who. I remember liking it about thirty-some odd years ago with Tom Baker. Freaky stuff for my 8-year old brain.

I'm looking forward to it. I'll have to steal it once it's available to be stolen.

Watching a show called Tumble on BBC One. It's essentially Dancing with the Stars for gymnastics.
I think one of the judges just referred to a somersault as a "somy." Disgusting.

Re: New Who
I rewatched the Smith-to-Capaldi regeneration last night. I was disheartened to see that the most upvoted comments were whining about how Capaldi was old and gross and how the Doctor should be young and hot. Naturally, there were a bunch of old school fans getting pissy about these comments getting upvoted. The old school fans were annoying me almost as much as the newer fans.

Re: New Who
I like how Moffat is dealing with the Doctor looking older, and I like how he's using Clara as a way to hand-hold new fans who might be put off by the Doctor looking older.

Re: New Who
Finished the episode. Good stuff. I liked the use of the automaton as a foil for the Doctor. Liked Clara's phone call. Liked the questions raised by the very end.

Re: New Who
I missed the first five minutes, and I missed a few minutes at around the thirty-minute mark. It wasn't my fault. It was a Person from Porlock.

Re: New Who
Who knew Jenny was so hot? WOWZA.
Well, obviously Vastra knew.
I fucking love Capaldi. Don't tell Tennant, but I think Twelve is already my favorite Doctor. Maybe he's what 10.5 will look like when he grows old.
Clara and Twelve were great together, as well. I really like their dynamic.
I don't mean this as a slight to any of you who may have adored Eleven, but I'm quite sure all of the people complaining about Capaldi are the same ones who masturbate to Matt Smith. Moffat really messed up with Eleven. The Doctor is not a sex symbol. He/Smith tried to make him one.
Yes, I realize Rose & 9/10 were in love (any argument to the contrary is INVALID) but I always saw that as her falling in love with him, not his mystique or appearance. Unlike Pond/River who just had the hots for his charisma.
At first I did not like the call at the end because I don't feel like the audience needed that, but by the time it was over I was tearing up. I never bought Smith's acting, but I felt it here.
Another observation: Several times during Eleven's era the question of "who is the Doctor" was raised in one form or another. I think, and it would seem Vastra agrees, that Twelve is his real personality. Nine and Ten were trying to come to terms with this. Eleven was running from it. Twelve has accepted it. I like that.

Re: New Who
I don't think Moffat messed up with the Eleventh Doctor. I've liked all the Doctors we've been given in the modern era. The actors and writers have explored something different each go-around. They've also explored similarities. The same object can look different from one angle to the next, after all.
I like that Doctor Who redefines itself constantly. I don't think I'd ever be able to say with any confidence that I believe the Doctor is or is not this or that. The Doctor's the Doctor. Sometimes he fits within my narrower ideas of what I think he should be, and sometimes he betrays those ideas. I continue to be engaged by the show, regardless of this. If that were to stop happening, of course, I might change my tune.

Re: New Who
I thought Smith was better than this in The Eleventh Hour. Capaldi took a while to find his feet here. I think this is why I usually don't love post regeneration episodes. By the end of it though, probably starting with Doc and Clara in the restaurant, it was getting much, much better.

Re: New Who
I thought this episode was a little boring except for the line about the Doctor being a good Dalek. With the exception of the last episode of last season, we really didn't get many references to the Doctor committing genocide throughout Eleven's tenure. That was a big part of Nine and Ten's motivations. Seems like with Capaldi, it will be again.

Re: New Who
Every single season there are fans who speculate that X character is the Master. I remember rumours going around about River being the Master.
