An audio clip of Kanye West's backstage "meltdown", which happened moments before he was due to appear on Saturday Night Live, has been leaked online. In the clip, West calls Taylor Swift a "fake ass" and compares himself to Pablo Picasso.

The footage captures the rapper in the middle of his expletive-littered outburst. According to Page Six – who released the footage in a video on their website on Wednesday – the rant began when West learned that he could not use the set that he had planned for his performance. Essentially, he wanted a shiny floor, but the US entertainment show's behind-the-scenes team removed it because it confusingly reflected the stage lights.

West can be heard shouting, “Look at that s–t they took my f-----g stage off’a SNL without asking me. I am bummed … If I am going to do this we are breaking the m------------g Internet.”

His tirade continues: “Are they f—–g crazy? Whoa by 50 percent Stanley Kubrick, Picasso, Apostle Paul, f—–g Picasso and Escobar. By 50 percent more influential than any other human being. Don’t f–k with me. Don’t f–k with me. Don’t f–k with me. By 50 percent dead or alive, by 50 percent for the next 1,000 years. Stanley Kubrick, ‘Ye.”

Sources claimed that West threatened to walk off the show, which was hosted by Melissa McCarthy. Allegedly, SNL boss Lorne Michaels had to talk the Yeezy singer into going ahead with his performance, and he eventually agreed. The source also claimed that West called the crew "white m-------------s", although this has been denied by West's representative.

Earlier on the day that the audio footage emerged, West had posted on Twitter several times to redress his previous claims that he was the best rapper of all time.

It is not the first time the famously provocative musician has made headlines recently. The build-up to the release of his new album The Life of Pablo was characteristically dramatic, and its live premiere in New York was followed by a well publicised feud with singer Taylor Swift.

Incensed by West's claim, in a song on his new album, that he made her famous, Swift used her Grammy acceptance speech to hit back. She said: “There are going to be people along the way who will try to undercut your success or take credit for your accomplishments or your fame…But if you just focus on the work and you don’t let those people sidetrack you…you will know that it was you and the people who love you who put you there.”

Kanye's team of statisticians determined that he is 50% more influential than Picasso, Kubrick, and Apostle Paul. They also determined that he is 50% more influential than any other human being. Would it be a fallacy to infer from that that all human beings other than Kanye West are as influential as Picasso, Kubrick, and Apostle Paul?

I like that the article refers to him as "the Yeezy singer" as if Yeezy were an adjective.

Apparently he called people "White Motherfuckers" too.
