We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Adam's Free Screenings Thread
I get invited to enough and I'm honestly never sure where or if to talk about them, so I figured this would work as a consolidated effort, to be updated from time to time.
Two weeks ago was The Maze Runner of course. Well worth your Redbox dollar when it comes out. This week will be Pride, which I only heard of because of Dr. Kermode's vlog. Here's the trailer.

Re: Adam's Free Screenings Thread
Watched Maze Runner a couple nights ago. Entertaining, but maybe not super-engaging, since so much of it felt borrowed from elsewhere and finely crafted for a profit from a specific market. A too-obvious conservative vs. liberal dialectic. Shades of Christ/chosen one narrative. Shades of Plato's Cave. Shades of Firefly movie/Reavers. ("Grievers" even sounds like "Reavers.") Hints of Lord of the Flies, Battle Royale, and Hunger Games. Once again, the lead is the blandest character on screen. The vehicle we're supposed to feel comfortable driving. The guy holding the camera for the POV pr0n. The male Mary Sue.
Still, didn't hate the movie. Sipped my soda, ate my popcorn, and never looked at my watch.

Re: Adam's Free Screenings Thread
I believe the comparison I made at the time was that Maze Runner is what would happen if Hunger Games married Lord of the Flies and cheated on it with The Goonies.
So, y'know, we're pretty much on the same page. Entertaining mashup of those things, but way way way too much exposition. If there's a sequel, I hope they do a lot less tell and a lot more show.

Re: Adam's Free Screenings Thread
I'm considering skipping Pride tonight. It's raining here and there's an awful lot of road construction between here and the theater. Plus it seems like it'd play perfectly well on DVD.
Dalty? You know of anybody who's seen it? Hell..or anybody who's lived it, for that matter? Is it worth the trouble?

Re: Adam's Free Screenings Thread
It's apparently very entertaining but a ridiculously one sided and romanticised view of the issue. But good for entertainment.
I would stay in and look for a bagel. Or is it a coffee? I can never remember.

I usually drink coffee while looking for bagels.
Make of that whatever you wish.

Every time I see the title of this thread, I'm compelled to read it as "Adam's Free Gas Thread"... and it does not compute.

Re: Adam's Free Screenings Thread
I've got two passes to a screening of The Good Lie this Thursday. I'm 80% sure I'll be going, but I'm utterly confused as to why they're doing a free screening of a film that'll already have been in semi-wide release for nearly three weeks at that point.
