Trailers
Forum rules
We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Re: Trailers
I'm looking forward to the 70s fashion, and not having to wear it, unlike the first time around.

It'll be back...... again!
Luckily the 90s revival seems to have been evaded.

Re: Trailers
This trailer kind of creeps me out. Not because Maleficent herself is creepy, but it's more about the composition of the whole thing. So she's supposed to be an evil fairy in command of terrifying creatures, but the voice-over narrator describes the creatures she commands with a sense of wonder that I find slightly disturbing. Once he gets to Maleficent and describes her as the "most fearsome of all creatures," he basically sounds as if he's admiring her. I get that this is the retelling of a classic story from the villain's perspective, but the villain is still supposed to be sort of evil, right? I don't know, the tone of this trailer just rubs me the wrong way.

Re: Trailers
I'm not sure about this, but I think they're going for a John Gardner's Grendel sort of vibe. I think they're hoping to paint her as misunderstood so that kids can root for her a bit. That, or they're going to work overtime to show us why she became evil in hopes of making people more sympathetic. Whatever the case, I know they're going to engage in some revisionism.
I guess it's technically a featurette. It appears it's trying to sell Maleficent and her forces, specifically. I guess this gives it a little leeway for its tone. That said, I agree that the tone of the trailer is a little off. On the other hand, it reminds me a little of the tone of certain cartoon trailers and toy commercials from the mid-eighties. To help sell bad guy toys, they would often revel in the bad guy's badness in some way, and the announcer would come across almost pro-bad guy. I'll see if I can dig up an example.
It seems like I remember them doing it with characters like Cobra Commander, Darth Vader, Skeletor, and Robotech's Breetai. A lot of kids liked to play as a bad guy (I was one of them), and these bad guys, in particular, were pretty charismatic.

Re: Trailers
There are some actors that can't pull off sci-fi/fantasy and Jolie is one of them.

Re: Trailers
I was expecting Dalty to drop in at some point, quote Mal's "rubs me the wrong way" comment, and say something like "Jolie can rub me any way she wants" in response, but I guess that's not gonna happen.

I may be against the curve here, but I don't find her that attractive anymore. In her Tomb Raider days she was epic, and poor old Aniston never stood a chance against her Mr & Mrs Smith phase...... but these days? Also coming home and finding the house full of random Cambodian children is even worse than marrying a crazy cat lady.

Re: Trailers
I'm with you, Dalty. I used to find her extremely want-to-bang attractive (as you say... Tomb Raider!), but I think it is her increasing skinniness that has turned me off. She's so skeletal now.

No way. WW should be sexy and beautiful, but not a pouty sex goddess like Jolie. WW is a fucking Amazon, she shouldn't look like she gives a shit about pleasing a man.Bananarama's Bouncy Bits wrote:Back in her TR days she would have made a great Wonder Woman.
And no, Steve Jobs, I did not mean to say "ducking Amazon." Duck you, autocorrect.
