My wife had a very similar idea for the last two years and she was kind of upset that John Oliver got to put it into practice before she managed to do it.

I had a similar experience once. My sister and I had this idea for a parody of sports anime/manga, which would be based around table tennis. We never got far beyond creating the character roster and some character sketches, and then we found out that there were already a couple of mangas about table tennis (Ping Pong Club and Ping Pong), and eventually Hollywood also caught up on the idea with Balls of Fury. Not that these were the only things that kept us from moving forward with our concept.

We did have some pretty cool ideas, though.

I highly recommend the live action movie for Ping Pong (specifically this one), if you haven't seen it. I like it a lot. Made Goiter watch it. I am slowly working my way through the manga. Have not seen the new anime series yet.

At least the title we came up with for our manga was less bland than Ping Pong. We wanted something that captured the '90s trend of anime with titles that used non-Japanese words (with sometimes odd results). That's how we landed on Suck Suck Asswipe.
