Constantine TV series on NBC

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Yet you are allowed to show sex, people punching each other, people shooting each other, using drugs etc. ??

The sex depends on the situation / how much is shown / how much is implied. Otherwise, yep. Welcome to America!

Over here the age of consent for sex is 16, but pr0n is R18 certificate.
So you can do it yourself, but not watch anyone else do it for two more years!

Is it just me, or does Ryan's pose in that shot make Constantine look like a blond-haired Robbie Williams?

You're allowed to go to war at eighteen, but you can't buy booze until you're twenty-one. They also make it incredibly difficult for you to rent a car before the age of twenty-five. (I think the "They" in the previous sentence may be the auto rental industry. I'm not going to look it up. You can if you want.)
The car rental thing is the only one that makes sense to me.

You might be able to buy vanilla extract as a minor. That's something, I guess.
There may be some adulterants in there.

When I lived temporarily outside Dallas I was in a dry county. Needed a special card to drink with a meal and had to cross the county line to buy a bottle of wine. Crazy.

I imagine all countries have these rules which don't seem to make much sense compared with other age allowances. Like in Germany, you can have beer at 16, but can't buy a Smirnoff Ice or a Bacardi Mojito until age 18, despite the fact that they are less alcoholic than beer.

In North Korea, you're not allowed to be supreme ruler until after your dad dies.

I think there was a tizzy in lots of places about drinks like Smirnoff Ice and other 'Alco-pops' being seen as particularly attractive to under age drinkers. Maybe this is the typically Germanic response!

In my new apartment you are not allowed access to the TV remote unless you have beaten me in a 'No Holds Barred' wrestling match. Or, if you are clearly bigger than me and therefore likely to win, a game of Risk. The Swollen Goiter of God wrote:In North Korea, you're not allowed to be supreme ruler until after your dad dies.

I'll let you have the remote, but I'm more than happy to play a game of Risk with you.
Jubbers may also want to play. You'll want to keep an eye on her, though. She's sneaky.

She knows better, thanks to William Goldman.
If you give her the right Risk, though, she's been known to blow up the moon.

No, because he's not blond. And he doesn't look like Robbie Williams. The Swollen Goiter of God wrote:Is it just me, or does Ryan's pose in that shot make Constantine look like a blond-haired Robbie Williams?

He looks blond to me. Maybe it's the lighting. Or my dumb eyes.
I know the actor's not blond. His hair looks a lot darker in other shots of him I've seen, so I just assumed they dyed him blond for the role.

Upon further research, characters are still allowed to smoke on broadcast television shows, it's just exceedingly rare.
Unless that broadcast network is ABC. Disney appears to have put the kibosh on smoking entirely.

Re: Constantine TV series on NBC
I was kinda hoping they weren't allowed to. It would have been amusing to see X-Files reruns with digitally manipulated shots of the CSM sucking on a ballpoint pen.
When you say it's "exceedingly rare," does that mean you're only allowed to do it if you're a bad guy, or if the point of you doing it is to show that you're harming yourself? I bet that's what it means.

Re: Constantine TV series on NBC
I was never able to find any firm rules about it, so I can't say for sure. My best guess is that anybody can smoke, but it's far more likely to be a bad guy or a person who later gets harmed by it, as you say. It sounds like the networks were all spooked by the tobacco lawsuit settlement a while back which killed off Joe Camel.

This was the basis for my Disney Doesn't Allow It theory:

It also doesn't air on a broadcast network. Cable has its own rules.

And then there's HBO. Which isn't even television. It's HBO.

Every show on FX is allowed to say the word "shit" aloud.
