Ontario's true redneck underbelly has been exposed. The simmering fury of millions of butthurt white people has burst forth in a great gush. Some sort of, I don't know, white bursting gushingness.

Basically the tide of alt-right populism continues apace.
So when I suggested that he is insane "in his own right," I made a clever wordplay without even knowing it? Go me!

In the interest of full disclosure, yes, there was a time when I would have welcomed such a government, or at least made some welcoming noises while offering up some reservations about this or that policy. But not anymore. I guess I've fully returned to what is usually called "the left," not because I want to, but because there exist few alternatives.

I should also point out that I again voted Green this time, not really expecting it to bear much fruit. Turns out Ontario got it's first Green Party MPP(Member of Provincial Parliament) this year, party leader Mike Schreiner. So I'm taking that as a win. It used to be that Liberal(centre-left) and New Democrat(socialist) Party folks held a dim view of the Greens--not to mention each other.

But I have a feeling that in the new reality, we can't be too particular when choosing our friends.

The Ford Model R was famous for crashing and burning. The Ford Model D, as far as I know, was never released to the public.

I can't say I'm loving Justin Trudeau, but I don't trust the motives of some of the people condemning his government either.

I've shifted my politics yet again over the past 8 years. I wouldn't really call myself a libertarian anymore, except perhaps in a broad, handwaving sort of way. I now support a pragmatic Green platform with heavy emphasis on animal rights and alternative energy.

Whaf a difference a few years make.

I thought this would just be another dreary Canadian federal election, though more hate-driven than most. In a rare celestial alignment, the right wing candidate gets to look like the beacon of tolerance next to the compromised Trudeau:

Hours to go. I predict that Justin Trudeau will squeak by and receive a second term. That is the safe bet up here right now.

I don't want The Conservatives to win, but I also want to see JT held acountable for his actions. A minority government, in which the Liberals would have to share power with another party, most likely the socialist NDP, might be the ten floggings with a wet noodle he deserves. And a lot of good progressive legislation might actually get passed, particularly in the climate arena.

We will see.
