There should always be a question, shouldn't there? A whole lot of people shot a whole lot of people this year. Should we presume to know why each person chose to shoot the people they shot based on their ethnic background and/or religion?

No, but 50%+ of the country has already decided that when Muslims do it it's because they're Muslims. Nothing more, nothing less. Why they can't make the leap from "It was radicalized Muslim American citizens who did this shooting" to "Huh. I wonder how they got their guns? Maybe we should plug a loophole or two" is completely beyond me.

Some of the same Facebook friends who have said we should view white mass murderers as headsick minds acting independently say something close to the opposite when the mass murderers aren't white. It's bizarre to me that it's like this. It's also bizarre to me that they say the white mass murderers should have gotten psychiatric help. Many of the people who say this continue to be against the kind of universal health care that might have made such help accessible to the people in question and were generally dismissive of the efficacy of psychiatric health before all this.

Seriously, man. There was a huge stigma attached to psychiatry where I grew up. I'm pretty sure I've already mentioned this on the boards, but in Crossville, Alabama, psychiatry continues to be seen as a fancy bit of nonsense for rich people and city folk. If you had mental problems, it was because you were either a "retard" or a "pussy." There were no psychiatrists in Crossville. There still aren't. You have to travel to Albertville for that shit. Albertville is a city and has almost 22,000 people in it. It's huge.
