I have just realised it contains a word usage in a context that Negs won't like so I apologise.

I don't feel safer because Negs doesn't have a gun - because Negs doesn't need a gun. The one and only time Chuck Norris experienced fear, it was because he had misused an apostrophe in her presence.

Apparently, we could stop all the shootings if we just fixed the mental healthcare situation in the U.S. I've seen some variation on this argument posted at least a dozen times within the last seven hours or so.

The argument tends to come from those on the far right. Does this mean the far right is warming to universal healthcare? Because it would take something like universal healthcare to address all those with mental health issues.

Here's the weird thing:

Most of the people I know on the far right have generally pooh-poohed psychiatry and have maintained that those with mental health issues either need to snap out of it or stop being pussies. (Or, yes, both.) This we-need-better-mental-healthcare turn seems a strange turn for the far right to take.

If it's either that or take the guns, suddenly they find psychiatry!

I love it when people claim that what's needed to protect society is Wilbur and Billy-Bob lighting up with their pop-guns (effective range 30m if you stop, aim and fire in a controlled manner) in all directions.

I support the ownership--and usage, if need be--of legal firearms.

However... I think the time has come for Americans and Canadians to acknowledge that bearing arms is not a right, but a priviledge.

And a hard earned one, at that.
