The Writing's On The Wall

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

The Writing's On The Wall

I like it. Agree that the vocals are strong. Think it will be interesting to see it in a more bombastic version playing over a Danny Kleinman title sequence.

"You can listen to the Spotify version of the song below."

That should read "You can listen to the Spotify version of the song if you're willing to set up a Spotify account."

Fuck that. I'll wait for it to get an official YouTube video. I don't care enough to go digging, and I'm not in a hurry. I care just enough not to want to waste my time with audio that's been altered to get past the YouTube censors.

I still haven't seen Skyfall. Someday, maybe. Before Spectre.

Probably best, I gather it follows Skyfall like Quantum of Solace follows Casino Royale. In fact all 4 are linked.

It's up on YouTube already I think.

Couldn't listen to it, but even if it's good I still wish they'd gotten Muse instead. The first track on their last album was like an audition for a Bond theme.

Covers and midi piano tutorials are up, but I don't want my first listen to be some sounds-almost-like shit.

Fuck Spotify.

Exactly why I love them. Sometimes you just want to someone to assault your ears with loud guitars while singing operatically.

When I get a hankering for operatic singing with my rock, I go Nomi.

Improves with multiple listens. I think I prefer it to Skyfall.

I still don't see how you can like this better than "Skyfall".

Admittedly, I am biased because I felt that "Skyfall" was the first great Bond movie theme made during my lifetime. If you were to examine the songs outside of the context of Bond films, you could argue that the Sam Smith song is better. I just remember sitting in the theater, though, and getting goosebumps when the opening credits started rolling in Skyfall to the sound of "This is the end..." I also like how "Skyfall" works in parts of the Bond theme and manages to complement Adele's style of music. It was all used to great effect in the opening sequence.

I guess "Goldeneye" and "The World is not Enough" come close.

I like the A View to a Kill theme a good bit. That was released in your lifetime. I also dig "The Living Daylights," but I seem to be in the minority on that one.

Of the two, I'd say "A View to a Kill" is the only one most would consider iconic. It used to be fairly famous for being the only Bond them to hit the top spot on Billboard's Hot 100 (the video may have contributed to its success), but that may no longer be the case, since "Skyfall" was a pretty big hit. I'm too lazy to look up how big a hit it was.

If anything keeps "A View to a Kill" from achieving icon status for people, it's probably its eightiesness.

None of the 80s Bond themes made a particularly great impression on me. They all seem fairly forgettable, to be honest.

Some of us here talked "A View to a Kill" back on Corona 2.0. I remember neglet whining about Le Bon's supposedly whiny voice.

i hate Duran Duran, and Simon is particularly nasal on that song.

The 80s were particularly forgettable for Bond in almost every way, not just songs.

I still say Le Bon's nowhere near as nasally as someone like Billy Corgan. Your response to that may still be this: "I would class his whine of the word 'Viewwwww' as nasty as anything from the Pumpkins." If that is still your response, my response to that response is still this: "You and I must be listening to different Pumpkins songs."

I may think Billy Corgan is cool because he got his cats at the shelter where I volunteer and donates time and money to them, but it's the rare Pumpkins song I don't switch away from on the radio, just for that reason.

I had more of an ear for Corgan's voice when I was in high school. It grated more and more as I got older.
