What are you lookin' at?! Right now...

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

I was on the fence about whether or not to watcjh The Hitman's Bodyguard. Then I saw that Salma Hayek is in it.

I must investigate further...

Damn it. I forgot about that movie. I wanted to see it when it was in theaters, but I never got to. I should seek it out--less for the Hayek (not that I have a problem with Hayek) than for the Reynolds/Jackson.

It was amusing enough. Totally undemanding. A bit of fun.

I was rummaging through my dvd box and found Pandorum, an underrated sf horror flick I hadn't seen for awhile.

I'm 33 minutes in, and... is that Darryl?! Like, Walking Dead Darryl?

checks IMDB.... why yes it is.

I guess at the time he was still primarily known as Boondock Saints Murphy.

So I'm watching 8MM again, because I felt like feeling shittier than usual, and this movie will accomplish that.

Yo, Walking Dead Darryl has a bit part in this one too! 28 minutes in. Kind of a dick character.

I have been watching Supernatural for months now, grinding my way through it slowly. It started off really campy but has hooked me all the way into the middle of season 12. It's usually predictable but very enjoyable. Maggie from the WD had a guest stint, that was a cool surprise.

I was rewatching the criminally underrated 2009 sci-fi movie Knowing starring Nicolas Cage and directed by Alex Proyas, who also gave us Dark City.

This movie has a great ending (which is often lacking in today's sf films). Due in no small part to the use of Beethoven's 7th Symphony:

Totally neglected. Nicolas Cage is a great actor, squandered in mediocre productions.

If I were in a position to do so, I would change that.

I saw Alien at the iconic Cinesphere, one of the first IMAX theatres ever made, in Ontario Place here in Toronto. I'd never seen it on a big screen before, so it was a long-awaited treat.

It has not lost its capacity for shock and awe, in equal measure. I had hoped for an actual IMAX version, but alas, it looked to be an original print, only bigger. No matter. Some of the outer space scenes seemed a bit grainy at times, at least at first. After a while you don't even think about it.

I feel foolish and petty even mentioning it.

A masterpiece of science fiction, horror, feminism and claustrophobic suspense. Not to mention set design. My spaceship will have big-ass computer screens, levers, knobs, and keyboards that go "beep".

When i was pregnant with Jubboiter, thanks to Monty Python, everything at the doctor's office to me was a "machine that goes ping." I feel it only right that all spaceships go "beep."

Yes, of course.

And they should have levers, dials, and toggle switches that make audible clicks and clacks when you flip 'em.

Finished season two of Ozark. It was okay. I didn't find it as engaging as I did the first season but I still liked it. Wanted to see more Wyatt but it didn't really happen. Also, Marty seems like a pretty smart guy yet he keeps alienating Ruth to his own detriment. She is sooo deep in his shit yet he treats her so cold and like a grunt. I don't know, she is so important to his operation, knows so much. He needs to shake his head and get his house in order.

I am a confirmed Ozarkian(?) Ozarkite(?) That show kills it for me on so many levels. The comparison people tend to make is with Breaking Bad. However, while BB was a slow descent from innocence to full-on evil, leaving almost no-one untouched; Ozark basically begins with the precept that everyone is either corrupt or corruptible. Which I think is a good summation of our times.

I like that summation. Marty, although gulity of white collar crimes and ultimately responsible for the position of his family is the most innocent of all the cast. Never carries a weapon, is horrified by his children's and his wife's deeds, remains unstained in a way that the rest of his family is most definitely not. This show presents a more complex idea of innocence and guilt than Breaking Bad. Seems more human to me.

You might get into Bloodline, also on Netflix. Deals with similar themes of morality, corruption, and the grey areas between legitimate business and organized crime. Even if the last season kind of falters.

The Hunt for Red October.
