What are you lookin' at?! Right now...

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. I've begun season 3 of The Americans this weekend. It's as great as ever, but now Frank Langella is in the cast! What more could anyone want from a show??

I watched 10 Cloverfield Lane last night. I was totally into it until the very end. Then the movie lost me. The lack of a real resolution took my rating of the movie down a couple of notches.
Not that I'm against unresolved situations at the end of a story, but the movie basically began an entirely new plot line in the last 10 minutes that either led nowhere or will have to be continued in a sequel. I just think a movie should be a cohesive whole.

Couldn't agree more. Every time that movie's come up I've told people it's 3/4 of a GREAT movie, and then...SPOILER: she leaves the bunker.Mal Shot First wrote:I watched 10 Cloverfield Lane last night. For me, it wasn't even SPOILER: the entire segment after Michelle gets out of the bunker. I'm actually even okay with the genre shift that happens during that sequence. They could have pulled it off if half the movie had been dedicated to the suspense thriller portion with John Goodman and the other half to the alien resistance plot. As it stands, though, the ending is simply not satisfying because it opens up a whole other plot line and stops at a point where that plot line really should only have been getting started.

Re: What are you lookin' at?! Right now...
Exactly! That's a much better way of articulating my thoughts on that. The trouble was absolutely SPOILER: that they spent 2/3 of the film telling but not showing, creating that GREAT suspense, only grazing past the possibility of an alien attack just to have it completely switch into that once she leaves the bunker.
THAT SAID, SPOILER: I'd have loved it if they'd not left the bunker at all and just had the entire thing be one great big John Goodman mind-fuck. Or maybe not? But maybe! We'd never know, neither would she, and it would've made for a brilliant film that they almost pulled off.
So close yet so very far.

I'm watching a horror movie on Netflix called The Invitation. Low-budget, creepy stuff. The guy who played Norm Son-of-a-Gundersson from Fargo is in it, and it looks like he hasn't aged a day.

I rented Triple 9 and London Has Fallen today. Reports to come, but the latter had better be as delightfully awful as it looks.
