Has anyone else been watching Preacher?
way back when i was a baby mouse, around the time when i was posting on this board the first time [middle school/highschool], i read garth ennis' preacher and it destroyed my mind. i know a lot of you liked it back then, but FINALLY, two decades after it's initial release, Preacher is now a show.
and it's amazing. or at least, i'm having a lot of fun with it. i think, because i have so much distance from the original material, now that it's basically a fun, joyful, and fuzzy memory, the tv show feels very much the same. it all feels 'right'. anyone else feel the same? differently?

Re: Has anyone else been watching Preacher?
I've been watching it.
I feel I'm not a fair judge of it. I have read most of the series (but not all, budget gave out) and recently so.
My father thinks it's interesting, bordering on too weird and nonsensical. I agree a bit, some of the references are too oblique to be of any use to anyone other than a fan of the comics. The tone feels mostly spot on, but the characterization seems to be very off. It doesn't feel like Jessie and Tulip, and Cass feels like a parody.
So yeah, I feel I'm a bad judge, perhaps I can't differentiate between the too well enough to take it on its own merits, but i'm watching it.
I do feel it should have been a period piece, so much of the comic was rooted in that time frame that updating it messes up so much of the story.

Re: Has anyone else been watching Preacher?
I downloaded the first episode when it was uploaded to the AMC YouTube page, but I have yet to watch it. I liked the comics, but it's been a while since I read them.
I read most of Preacher after the fact. I read the first trade in the late nineties. I read the rest of them in 2004 or 2005. I checked them out from the Wash. U. library and read them over the course of about a week.
I've been wondering how Cassidy's handled on the show. I have this feeling that a live-action version of him would come across a little like the Buffyverse's Spike. I've also wondered about how they're handling Arseface. It seems like that character's particular charm would be tough to translate to the small screen.
I've also wondered just how far AMC is willing to let the show go. I'm sure it's already pretty out there, but the comics go out there in a way that AMC might not be willing to let a show go. (Then again, AMC lets The Walking Dead go its own out-there way on occasion, so who knows?)

"Number 1, it's like John Travolta in that movie where he gets his power from a brain tumour, or number 2 like Jason Bourne the power is from a secret government programme, or number 3, this is my favourite, though I admit it's unlikely. You're a Jedi!"
Sorry Adam. Can't compete.

There's been what...five episodes of Preacher so far? You've got four seasons of The Americans.Dalty wrote:"Number 1, it's like John Travolta in that movie where he gets his power from a brain tumour, or number 2 like Jason Bourne the power is from a secret government programme, or number 3, this is my favourite, though I admit it's unlikely. Maybe Dalty's more willing to take Mouse's word for it because Mouse hasn't given him half a decade's worth of bad suggestions.

Re: Has anyone else been watching Preacher?
How dare you! My TV recommendations are always for shows of the highest quality. It's not my damn fault the rest of the world has horrible taste and the shows get cancelled right away.

Re: Has anyone else been watching Preacher?
This is why I don't want to watch The Americans. If Adam is raving about it, it means it will be cancelled and then I will be left hanging.

It's already been renewed for a fifth.....and final....(shut up).....season. But it was renewed for that final season BEFORE I even started watching it, so there!

Your logic is impeccable.
