They should do it the way they do it in other countries: The only way to step into a union with another individual is in a court of law. You can still hold a separate ceremony at a church, but it will have mere symbolic meaning without a court document. The official name for this would be "civil union" for all adult citizens, regardless of the sex of the partners. You can call it marriage if you want, but the law would only refer to it in terms of a civil union. Done. The Swollen Goiter of God wrote:Again, it's hard for another group to trust that it will be able to get and retain every single legal benefit as long as major legal bodies are continuing to use different terms to define what are legally declared to be two different types of unions. For many gay people, "civil union" is going to continue to feel like a Jim Crow law. (Whether or not this comparison is apt is probably a subjective matter. For straight Christians, it may seem like a stretch. For others, it may not.) It'll remain a legal binding, separate from marriage, that is subject to change at a state's whim.

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. That makes too much sense. The US would never go for it.
Also, much of the religious right would insist that it questioned the sanctity and legality of the holy union and that this amounted to religious persecution. You can quote Romans 13 at them, but it won't matter.

I feel for him. When people support Ol' Goiter, their legs buckle. If they do it long enough, their legs are likely to beau.

Alabama Police Officer Arrested, Accused of Injuring Indian Man in Dashcam Video
This happened about seventy miles from my hometown. The dude was a grandfather. He's a year younger than my mother.
There's video. They throw him down pretty hard.

President's Day in Alabama isn't Washington/Lincoln, it's Washington/Jefferson. I guess they're still a bit bitter over the whole "War of Northern Aggression".

Re: Alabama, Ladies and Gentlemen!
I'll tell you a little secret: they give the rest of the world the impression they're honoring Thomas Jefferson, but the dark truth is that they're honoring Jefferson Davis.
Public schools don't always get out for President's Day. They set it aside as a "make up day." If there have been no school day cancellations up to that point(due to weather or something else), kids get that day off. Otherwise, kids still have to go to school on that day. That continues to be the case in DeKalb County, at any rate. I just confirmed this with Crossville High School's assistant principal.

I'm never one to shy away from mocking Alabamians for their stupidity, but this is clearly spin. The Concourse/Deadspin has to reach for this one.

I think I may have shared one of this guys' videos in the past, but I figured I might as well share another.
I like his stuff. He's one of the few semi-famous Alabama natives who isn't a total embarrassment.
