I got a free rental yesterday, so we watched The World's End, which was loads of fun. Martin Freeman got way more action in that movie than he did in The Hobbit films.

I feel bad for Freeman. He was the absolute right person to cast for the roll, but the movies haven't lived up to his casting--not for me, anyway.

Speaking of Freeman and Benderama Slumberbitch, I am now finally getting all caught up on Sherlock.

There's a lot of bloat. There's a lot of manipulating tone, and there's a lot of changing and adding plot details. Most of it's done to make things look and feel more like Jackson's Lord of the Rings. I wouldn't mind if the movies themselves were more engaging. I can accept that it's Jackson's The Hobbit and not Tolkien's The Hobbit. I just wish I actually liked Jackson's The Hobbit.

We haven't seen any of the third series of Sherlock. It's something I look forward to.

I finally watched the last Who Christmas special. I can't remember exactly when I watched it, but it's been within the last week.

He didn't get any real action, though, did he? He just had to sit there in the buff and wait for the lighting and camera folk to get their shit together.

That movie is a treasure trove of actors who have appeared in geek/genre properties.

I had fun mentally recasting it by switching all the actors against type. Like make Bill Nighy the grieving widower and Alan Rickman the aging rock star.

But when Emma Thompson is the schoolboy with a crush on a classmate it just gets creepy.

And Liam Neeson.
