We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

I tolerate Trek V. I also think Nemesis is better than people think.

Re: Space News
The thing that really bothers me about Nemesis is that Picard's Mini-Me clone looks nothing like him.

He's bald. When it comes to baldies, that is all it takes to make us virtually identical !

If I haven't mentioned it before, I think Star Trek VI is terrible.

I like the hero pose they all pull at the end, with Scotty and Sulu with their legs up, at Camp Kittomer.

I like the Director's Cut. It's now what I think of when I think of Star Trek: The Motion Picture.

So worth the BluRay and an evening with a bottle of wine and my new indecently large TV?

I haven't seen ST: TMP since I saw it in theaters. I remember liking it them. Will have to check out the DC. ADD IT TO THE SYNC WATCH LIST!

It's worth it--especially since buying a Blu-ray and a bottle of wine wouldn't call for the removal of more than a coin or two from one of your many, many bags of money.Bananarama's Bouncy Bits wrote:So worth the BluRay and an evening with a bottle of wine and my new indecently large TV?

Re: Space News
It's not one of the best, but I don't think it warrants the "curse of the odd numbers" designation like V does. Now I, sweethearts, am old enough to have seen TMP when it came out in the theaters. I primarily remember my dad, who introduced me to Trek and who is a huge space program fan, whispering "I know what vger is" after the second or third time they mentioned it.The Swollen Goiter of God wrote:I like Star Trek:The Motion Picture.
Of course, when my offspring reached the appropriate age, I introduced him to classic Trek and Next Gen, along with the corresponding movies. The thing I remember about rewatching TMP for the first times in ages is the first time the Enterprise appears on screen, in a shot that seems to last forever but is probably only a couple of minutes. My son was laughing, but I told him he had to remember the context: Trek fans hadn't had new Trek in almost ten years, and that shot of the Enterprise was like p0rn to them.

Re: Space News
Star Trek: The Motion Picture is probably the closest representation of what Trek was supposed to have been. Peaceable human exploration of the universe. Not necessarily pacifist, but peace-seeking.
It reminds us that there was once a time when not every sf movie had to end in a bloody shootout, or fistfight, or some such orgy of destruction.
Some should, of course, and more power to them. But not all.
