We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Do you have to, like, tack and gib on the solar winds? Can we get this bad boy over on its side with its keel nearly out of the...... erm...... space ocean?

There have actually been some scientific scenarios regarding solar sails in which tacking and so forth are part of the overall plan.Bananarama's Bouncy Bits wrote:Do you have to, like, tack and gib on the solar winds? Myself, personally... I'm all about solar power in all of its forms. Terrrestrial or otherwise. Anytime you have energy given to you for free.... why the heck not? Of course the petro-cons have their own agenda.
But more about that later.

Although they make a good point about starting with driveways and maybe public sector car parks, roadways in airports etc. etc. Then if it pays for itself, who knows? It would be amazing if they could make it happen.

Re: Space News
Well, the rightwingers here are committed to burning as much carbon as is humanly possible, forever, so it would be a tough sell for them.
The lefties believe in spending as much money as possible, but at least they have pushed investment in alternative energy projects. I could see it happening in some small capacity at first.

You would think the oilies would want to take all those huge profits and find a plan B, therefore ensuring the future of their huge profits.

Re: Space News
Yeah, I would imagine the more forward-thinking companies do. As much for the PR value as anything else.
I seem to recall BP had some commercials where they proudly announced their commitment to alternative fuels. Even had some scenes with this hippy-type guy, going into cornfields, playing with beakers an' shit, telling the executives about making fuel from corn, etc. This was before they dumped a billion shit-tonnes of oil in the Gulf of Mexico.

They didn't, the Americans did and blamed BP.
