For Negs. Yummy stuff!

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Everyone loves a broth. But is it a broth or a soup?

That's what Erika Eleniak said. Fake Strider armed a weapon and replied, "Yeah, well, I also cook."

Erika does what she pleases. She needs no approval from a fake but hiding king of men.

The British Empire encompasses many tasty foods. Homegrown British food, aside from a few tasty sausages, is dreadful. No wonder when we were living there a survey showed that the national food of Britain was Chicken Tikka Masala. Traditional Sunday roast beats all known global dishes. It beats them until they cry for their Mommy!

Dalty, Dalty, Dalty. My mother-in-law was British, and my poor husband grew up with her cooking. She was a lovely lady and I loved her dearly, but after a childhood filled with dry roasts, overboiled vegetables, and no spices, he thinks anything I make is culinary genius.

People who grow up with parents who can't cook for shit are usually in awe of spouses who are passable cooks. For these people, the idea that decent food can be made at home is strange and confusing at first.

My mother was a terrible cook too, still is!
But the days of Bernie Inn's and Harvester Steakhouses as the epitome of British Haute Cuisine is well and truly over. Joel Roubechon (he of 25 Michelin stars) describes London as the culinary capital of the world..... which upset the French no end!

Re: For Negs. Yummy stuff!
My (maternal) great-grandmother and aunt were always seen as the best cooks in the family. My grandmother and mother do their best. There's always been something a little "plain" about what they do. They use a lot of canned stuff.
My mother has been known to cook nothing but meat for a meal. She'll cook chicken fingers, hamburger patties, and boil some weenies. If anyone says anything about the lack of sides, she'll say, "If you want some mashed potatoes, make some mashed potatoes. It ain't hard."
She made me eat roadkill that one time. That was pretty cool, I guess.

That was kind of my point ... you can eat very well in London, but rarely is it anything other than "foreign" cuisine.Bananarama's Bouncy Bits wrote:My mother was a terrible cook too, still is!
