I guess the sample size could have been small. The dicks, for that matter, could have also been small.
I figure it's easiest to crush a big dick. That's really only a guess, since I'm far from being a master dick crusher. It's not that I'd be averse to crushing some dicks. Bring me a bag of dicks, and I'll get right to crushing.

I don't think America is ready for an unmarried male president. Philanderer? Sure. Bachelor? Not yet.

I like this movie too, mainly because I love Sorkin and Annette Bening looks so damn good in this movie. Well, until the end, when the speech the president gives at his press conference happens. As much as the scriptwriter must have liked it, there is no way in fucking hell a president would say those words. You think your approval ratings dropped when you were getting a little nookie in the WH, just wait until the right-wing conservatives see you basically shitting on the 2nd amendment.Bananarama's Bouncy Bits wrote:The American President.

I dunno, I like the "....make you afraid of it and point out who you can blame for it...." bit. It seems spookily accurate looking at the state of the American Right these days.

Watching a rather fantastic documentary by James May (motoring journalist and Top Gear presenter) called "Cars of the People" about how motoring was bought to the masses. He has already talked about how it is a historical inaccuracy that the Model T Ford was in any way responsible for the revolution.
This week he is talking about cars from totalitarian dictatorships and the ultimate 'Peoples Wagon' - the VW Beetle.
Some of it is a really interesting insight into the what is, and I don't mean this quite how it sounds, the brilliance of the Nazi's - as far as to how they managed to take that nation on this journey that ended so badly. Loads of stuff I didn't know or realise.

I also knew nothing about the Italian Communist Red Brigade, much less their domination of 1960's Fiat. This is interesting stuff!

That's how Yugoslavia ended up with the rights to produce generic versions of the Fiat 128 (Yugo Skala a.k.a. Stojadin) and the Fiat 600 (Zastava 750 a.k.a. Fićo ["little Fiat"]).
The 128 was probably one of the cars with the biggest circulation in Yugoslavia by 1991. It was sort of like the VW Beetle situation in Mexico.

I watched Strangers on a Train last night. Quietly, it seems, one of Hitchcock's best films. Among the ones I've seen anyway.

I also re-watched that fairly recently. Bruno is such a weird character, maybe just one step below Norman Bates.

That 'Megalodon: Monster Shark Lives' thing from Shark Week on Discovery. Really feel the presenting a docu-drama in this way on a so called science channel is just wrong, wrong, wrong. Some people will believe this shit.

I was thinking that as well. It's as if the thought process in creating Bates was "Well, that Bruno lunatic with daddy issues just wasn't quite creepy enough....and let's make it mommy issues instead!"Mal Shot First wrote:I also re-watched that fairly recently. You should give Robert Bloch and his novel at least a little credit for Bates. Granted, Bates wasn't described by Bloch as young and skinny and heartthrobby, so the two characters are at least superficially different. I remember him being older and dumpy. You could also give some credit to Ed Gein. If you want to give Ed Gein some credit, that is. Doing so may make you feel a little icky.Adam54 wrote:It's as if the thought process in creating Bates was "Well, that Bruno lunatic with daddy issues just wasn't quite creepy enough....and let's make it mommy issues instead!"
I guess Hitchcock deserves credit for being drawn to the material and choosing to film it. Maybe he felt drawn to it because he was hoping to return to the Bruno "type."
You may already know this, but if you don't, here it is: Robert Walker, the actor who played Bruno, died roughly two months after Strangers on a Train was released.

I remember it being one of those Hollywood Mystery sort of things, but I couldn't remember any details, so I Wikipediaed. Looks like it was probably the result of a bad reaction to a booze-and-sedative mix. He didn't administer the sedative himself, but he did administer the booze.

Re: WAYWRN: Because there aren't enough characters in this f
Ed Gein is supposedly at least a partial influence for Buffalo Bill, too (I'm not trying to inform Thursty of this, since I assume he already knows all Hollywood trivia; I'm just sayin'). He's probably not the most influential serial killer in regards to Hollywood movies, but his quality outstrips others' quantity. For clarity, I should point out that Ed Gein is not officialy a serial killer; I believe the FBI requires three confirmed kills to qualify, and I think he only has two (confirmed, that is; it's always possible he's done more; I can't remember if he's suspected in any other murders/disappearances). As far as the Buffalo Bill thing, I think Gein would dig up bodies and use the skin to make stuff like lampshades. Ted Bundy is a partial influence for Hannibal Lecter, I think, since Bundy consulted at least one FBI agent on the Green River killings, I think. As far as Hitchock films go, my favorite is 'Rope'. It's based on Leopold and Loeb (or, the original play is). They weren't serial killers; they only killed one person. I have a bunch of Hitchock movies on an exteranal HD that I need to get around to waching. Still haven't watched 'Strangers on a Train' (I have seen 'Throw Momma From the Train', though, so I feel like I'm familiar with it).The Swollen Goiter of God wrote:Adam54 wrote:You could also give some credit to Ed Gein.
