Misunderstood Lyrics

We once roamed the vast forums of Corona Coming Attractions. Some of us had been around from The Before Times, in the Days of Excelsior, while others of us had only recently begun our trek. When our home became filled with much evil, including the villainous Cannot-Post-in-This-Browser and the dreaded Cannot-Log-In, we flounced away most huffily to this new home away from home. We follow the flag of Jubboiter and talk about movies, life, the universe, and everything, often in a most vulgar fashion. All are welcome here, so long as they do not take offense to our particular idiom.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
Remember that time at Cinescape that you bragged about driving drunk? That was weird.

Yeah, well, now you're just trolling. If you weren't before.
Drunk driving is really bad, mmmkay? Lesson learned.
And Earth is part of space.
Oh, who gives a fuck anymore.

Every look back at my past elicits a Tsk! or two. I am alternatingly ashamed of and impressed by my younger self.
We're moving in a couple weeks, so I've been going through old papers and throwing away what I no longer want or need. It's a painful process.

I am moving too.
I am now the proud renter of a storage locker, that will hopefully not be the focus of some episode of a reality show where some dude yells "YEEPPPPPPP!!" before claiming possession of my 30 year old Texas Instruments video game console.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
Does Canada have those kinds of shows? And if Canada does, is it just because you're getting our TV exports?
I was hoping the Storage Wars plague hadn't spread too far beyond the US.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
We have our own Storage Wars, although in our case it's more like Storage Peacekeeping. Ha ha, outdated reference completely lacking in modern post-Liberal relevance.
I have a nasty habit of, er, forgetting to pay certain bills. It would not be totally surprising to see my spot being cut open and auctioned if things go south in the years ahead.
My boxes of Playboy Newsstand editions would be sold to the highest bidder like cattle! Oh the horror.

Speaking of the horror, do you have the issue from October of 1973?

I saw something on CNN the other day about Warp drives and thought of you. Pretty much all space themed items of interest I see these days make me think of you.

This has to be one of the most off-topic threads in our collective history of message board posting.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
I'm sure there are threads out there that would give it some stiff competition.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
I suppose this thread isn't truly off-topic until someone randomly says "mittens."

I'm pretty sure it goes back to msunyata and CA 1.0's "STAR WARS - General Discussion" board.

I think it was a Tom Servo reference.

I could have used a warp drive on my trips to Brazil.

Which is an example of an understood lyric, rather than the converse.

You sure he's not saying "Tin Pan," as in "Tin Pan Alley"?

Anyway, my flight was 11 hours. Roughly. So I got that part right.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
The beauty of some misheard lyrics is that they can make a lot of sense. I prefer some of my mishearings to the actual lyrics.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
For the longest time, I thought that the song "Dunkie Butt" by 12 Gauge was actually called "Donkey Butt." I thought he was saying, "Gimme that donkey butt and them big ol' legs / I ain't too hard to beg." The weird thing is, it kind of made sense to me. I figured he liked women with with butts and legs as big as donkeys' butts and legs (plus, it seemed like a clever way of re-wording ass's ass). The chorus "Lemme ride that donkey, donkey" also just made a lot of sense. I'm still not quite sure what "dunkie" means... it might be a variation of badonkadunk.
I also just recently figured out that the Black Crowes' vocalist doesn't wish to light anyone's chemicals.

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
Hm, I think "light your chemicals" sort of works in that song. Has the same vibe as "light your candle."

Re: Misunderstood Lyrics
I knew the Otis Redding version going in, so I had a leg up on understanding the lyrics in the Black Crowes version. Still, Chris Robinson's mushmouth is so thick in that one part that it's almost like his voice reaches a hand up through your nose and slaps the lyrics right out of your brain.
